Rifle Scopes 457 scope on a budget

Merry Christmas everyone.

Have a 457 Varmint on the way, and am now in the market for a scope for it.

I am on a budget of $300 or under, and right now it looks like a SWFA fixed 10x about fits the bill (FFP, mil/mil, etc)

I have been eyeing the Athlons as well. I may be able to up the budget but right now I’m at $300 per The Boss.

Any others besides the SWFA to consider?

I just replaced my Athlon ares 2.5-15 with an Ares 4.5-27.. I bet if you’re patient and look around enough you can find a used 2.5-15 Ares btr for just a little more.

This one (SFP, however) seems to be highly regarded and 9.5oz: SWFA SS 2.5-10x32 Ultralight Rimfire Scope

I own a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 6-24x50mm FFP and like it. Not the “best” glass but fine for rimfire, and I really like the 2c reticle.

The SWFA is $50 more than you want to spend, and the Diamondback 6-24 is $400 or less street. It also comes in 4-16x44mm FFP version (and a 4-12 SFP version too) for less money. Liberty Optics probably can get Vortex cheaper.

I’m sorry I don’t know of anything $300 or less.

You’re on the right path with the SWFA. It’s reliable, has a ton of internal elevation (you’ll need it if you stretch out a 22), and comes within your budget.

You’d have to triple your budget to get something “better” IMO.

Just looked at that Vortex. It is on the list. I loved the reticle in the Razor G2 I had. When you say “not the best glass”, what does it lack?

The only things slightly holding me back are it being a fixed power, and the reticle. Otherwise it’s an absolute bombproof scope and I’m kicking myself for selling the one I had.

You know that veeeery slightly milky thing lower-end scopes have going? Especially when there’s a light source in the sight picture, causing a bit of a whitish flare? That’s what I’m talking about. I think it’s perfectly acceptable for the money. I wish the turrets locked.

And the reticle is EXACTLY like the Razor G2 2c’s. I know because I own one too.

Wild thought popped into my mind tonight; I have a LRTS sitting here I listed for sale. I’m now considering throwing it on the CZ when it comes. It has a lot I am looking for, but only parallaxes down to 50 yards. Thoughts?

Well, scopes without adjustable parallax that are also labeled “rimfire” are usually focused to 50yds…

So unless you’re shooting targets at 25yds or you have some special requirements, I think you’ll be fine. How heavy is that scope?

I believe it’s a 30mm, and I’m eyeing another 30mm diameter scope for it. I don’t think I’ll be toting it in the woods much, mainly off the bench/at the range.

I have a Diamondback Tactical on my custom 10/22 and it does the job just fine. Also Eurooptic has the Vortex Strike Eagle 4-24x50 on closeout for $299. I have one on my AR and it's pretty good from the money, I've taken it out to 600 yards on many occasions with no complaints. SFP, illuminated and focuses down to 20 yards. I've been debating buying one just to have a spare.
