People mostly talk about how these are smoother than blowback designs. Does the delayed unlocking of the bolt make them noticably quieter when using a suppressor? My blowback 9mm uses a proprietary buffer and spring, so it's not readily tunable.

You want the shorter one.
What??? How does 3" of barrel length limit ammo choice? Its just limits your ammo options.
No problem persay.

The propellant they use and they amount consistently dispensed is a problem. Keep in mind some of this subsonic stuff is 750fps-850fps in a 5” barrel and other stuff is 1000fps to 1025fps in the same 5” barrel. Bump the barrel length up to 8” and some will and can go supersonic on you. Sometimes they all will. Sometimes its random rounds. The worst is random rounds....
The similarities to your 5.56 11.5” are only aesthetic. How pretty everything needs to look in the safe. The fact that a 9mm or 45acp pcc have the same ergos is nice for us with a lot of muscle memory. Its a bonus when the desire to run a pcc pops up. But the idea of using a pcc to mimic training of the 5.56 gun does not remotely pan out. Its not cheaper practice.
Ahhh, thanks for the clarification. My PCC has a 6-1/2" barrel. I've stacked Blazer AL case 147s and they are definitely subsonic.

I don't worry about "training" with anything except my carry pistol. Rifles and PCC are for fun. My AR15 destroys my steel targets, so I've almost completely gone to shooting 9mm. And it's a lot cheaper. And it suppressed better. Based on how many 9mm rounds I shot last year, I saved about $1700 over buying the cheapest bulk .223. And my steel targets are still GTG.I can shoot my steel from pretty close range without worry and the weight and balance are going to be similar. Not to mention the cost to shoot. I can pump out 9mm on the Dillon really quickly. 556 takes more effort and money. That's my main reason. A 9mm carbine has no practical purpose for me other than a range toy and cheap close range practice. Honestly a direct blowback would probably be a better choice since the recoil is at least as much as 556, but I just can't bring myself to put one together. With the RDB upper I should be able to use my SBR lower with no mods.
