I recall reading a few articles earlier this week about her likely voting “No”, my guess is because Republicans would insist everyone be called (including Qid Pro Joe and Hunter along with the rest of the asshole brigade)

I dont think the democrats in the senate understand the senate's roll...

They are like a jury locked in a room to deliberate over evidence...

Pretty sure in a normal jury trial you cant go back out and say "hey prosecutor/defense, can you call Joe Schmoe to the stand cause we want to hear from him"...

They understand the role as it is clearly stated in the constitution. They just dont give a fuck about it.


You are correct.

If a prosecutor or defense council pulled a witness out of a hat, judge would declare a mistrial in the blink of an eye.

Come on, now - let's not be getting too excited just because he successfully outmaneuvered his peers in the House.

Schiff is too fucking stupid to recognize just how badly he lost, but Pelosi... she's certainly self-aware enough to realize that she got rolled like no other time in her career. This loss will go down in history as one of the worst-ever political plays in Congress. She should have castrated Schiff the moment he started setting up his circus tent.

All that being said, I don't see anything big happening in the House next election unless the Republicans can really step up their game. In all likelihood, Trump wins but the Dems keep the House.

Do not really see this as a win for R's (or Trump) - at all...

TBH, the dems out manuevered the R's on this one. Bolton secured the R's opposition to witnesses which is exactly what the dems wanted.

Agreed. Two things:

1) Most of the Republican senators already agreed that Trump did the things he was accused of doing. More witnesses were not going to make this any more so.

2) Calling witnesses was likely to go worse for the Democrats. Sure, Bolton and his mustache would have gone on record as saying that the bad orange man did bad things. But then the Bidens would have certainly been called to testify, and at that point, I suspect that someone on the Republican side would have also gotten himself and his family thrown under the bus for accepting bribes. Romney is my guess, based upon the Cruz/Graham joint question:

“If Pres. Obama had evidence that Mitt Romney’s son was being paid $1 million/yr by a corrupt Russian company & Romney had acted to benefit that company, would Obama have authority to ask that that potential corruption be investigated?”

That was a shot across the bow.

Bottom line - Trump's acquittal was almost certain from the start of these proceedings, and calling witnesses wasn't going to change that. What it could have done is exposed the corruption of those trying to take down the President (and if we're honest, probably some of his supporters).

In hindsight, I really wish witnesses had been called, in the spirit of "some men just like to watch the world burn".

The Democrats KNEW that the Republicans controlled the final vote, they KNEW that the Republicans would prevent the witnesses and evidence that would have proved Trump's guilt from being allowed, yet they forced it through anyway.

Anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together knows that if the witnesses and evidence would be exculpatory, the Republicans would have had them included from day 1.
The fact that they fought so tenaciously to exclude them is further proof that they knew how damaging they would be.

WRONG. Democrats wanted to call witnesses to extend the show and to go fishing for new avenues to explore because they were at the end of the road. Ever notice how, just like with the Kavanaugh hearing, right before they were going to vote they would miraculously come up with some "new" piece of evidence that "demanded we investigate this further"? Thankfully, Republicans learned their lesson this time and put a stop to it.

Calling witnesses would have been stupid for Republicans and Trump. The onus of proof is on the prosecution (Democrats). They brought the case to trial without any proof. If you were on trial for a crime you didn't commit, and the judge ruled to acquit based on lack of evidence, would you then demand both sides call witnesses when you've already won? Of course not! Because, that would be STUPID.
