How much variation do you guys get from one round to the next when seating based on the ogive? I’m using the hornady comparator reloading .308 with 175gr SMKs. I’m getting 0.001-0.004” differences between rounds. Using a lee single stage press and a Forster benchrest seating die.

Is that normal and does it really matter? I’ve been using this load for a while and never measured each round like I did with this batch and it’s been shooting fine at around 0.5-0.75 MOA so I can’t really complain.

Using the same comparator and bullets, I get pretty much the same variation . . . when I don't sort the bullets. When I sort them ( to +/- .001 groups) I get a variance between .0005 - .001. Also, what I see that helps in having is a seating resistance that's consistent and I feel I get that due to annealing and trimming after every firing and trimming as I do, since these things can effect seating depth.

.0001-.0004 is probably as much the error on the calipers and how hard youre pressing on them, or if the stamping of the case head left any burrs. Don't worry too much, just send it

I use a lee challenger press and a forester die and I usually try to get within .001+/-. But I'm not really that picky, neither is my gun.
