Rifle Scopes Minimum elevation adjustment

Just bought a new rifle and need to scope it. It's a RPR 300 wm, that will be mainly used at approx 1000 yrds, occasionally a mile just for kicks. I have a couple scopes I'm trying to decide between, but was wondering: what would be the minimum elevation adjustment number to look for? I've seen everything from 40 moa to 125moa.

20-25 usable mils would be plenty.

My 3006 with a 150 gameking takes 38 moa to get to 1k yards, 38moa*.3=11.4 mils which is about the least long range capable combo that you can get, your winmag and a match bullet will only do better.

If you have a flat scope base then you should budget half half of your elevation range to up meaning you would want to have 11 mils above and 11 below meaning a total of 22 mils (/.3=73 moa). Obviously you wont be perfectly centered in your elevation range but for broad strokes math its fine.

RPR has a 20 moa cant built into it though so you take 20 moa (5.98 mils) from below your zero and add it to the top.
20 mils of scope with no cant would be 10 up, 10 down
with the canted base you would have 16 up and 4 down. Thats pretty optimal IMO.

So start with a minimum of 20 mils (70 moa) of scope elevation and everything above that will be extra buffer room.

europtics has a gen 1 vortex viper pst with 65 total moa, which I assume is 32.5 up and 32.5 down, and yes, the RPR has 20 moa built in to the rail. I'm not looking to compete with this rig, just have some fun. Reckon this combo will get it done?

My firsts somewhat serious scope was a Vortex HS-T 6x24, it’s very similar (same travel and similar glass) to the Gen 1 pst.
with a 20 moa rail I like 54 moa of vertical I could dial.
well over 1000 yards.
glass wasn’t spectacular but good enough.

That would make it 52.5 up and 12.5 down, you’ll be fine.

That said, I’d skip the gen1 pst, most of the newer offerings in the price range surpass it.

I'm not being argumentative, I want to learn all of this stuff. The price europtic has on that glass is really good, at least right now. If there are issues with that model, I'd like to know. I've been shopping and reading and studying to the point my head is fried. I saw the magnification, thought that vortex was a decent brand, liked the reticle, and felt like the $500 price tag wasn't so bad. I am very open to suggestions, but would like to stay under $800 if possible. Thanks for the help.

That’s not a good price. Under 400 would be. For under 800 you have the Athlon Midas Tac/ares btr, the bushnell lrtsi, the Burris xtr2, meopta Optika6, Steiner p4xi, swag SS and the list goes on and on. The gen1 pst was a revelation a decade ago. It no longer is now.

I’d take the 269 dollar clearance Argos btr via cameralandny over the pst gen1

I just bought a mint 6-24x50 Midas Tac in the px here for $425. Great scope and worth a look. They pop up from time to time for really good deals.

Just over your budget but if cameraland still has the bushnell dmr2 on sale for $899 I would consider that.
