I went out to zero rifle on Sunday. It was a beautiful sunny, snow-covered day. What I found is that I couldn’t focus on the target and reticle due to the scope being so bright. I found the only way to shoot was wearing my sunglasses. Has anybody experienced this? Any tips or tricks? Shooting a GEN II Razor 3-18.

thanks!

Yes, but the fix is easy. Take another scope cap, an drill a 1/2" to 5/8" inch hole it. The other way is to place a womans nylon stocking over the obj an lash it in place with a rubber band, if it's real bright an the sun angle is perfect you may need to use two or 3 layers.

How about a sunshade???

High end optics are made for those environments. it’s where you see the difference between a tier one optic and a pos.

If you need one, get a sunshade. And or an ard.

you can also use anything from cardboard to an old cigarette pack and masking tape to make a field-expedient shade.

here is one made from a scope cap.

I have made more elaborate ones from metal for a few guys here. There is a thread.

Cheers,

That’s the solution I was looking for. The sun was behind me so the shade wasn’t doing anything. Looks like the old blizzard glasses.

I bought Oakley z87 rated glasses with interchangable lenses. Smoke/pink/clear depending on the day.

You always wear safety glasses in case of a kaboom, right?

Yep! I have a clear pair in my shooting bag and I had to go back to a tinted pair. No need to take a risk with my eyeballs.

I run a sunshade and orange lensed ESS Crossbows. Much more relaxing to look through a scope all afternoon with the blue light filtered out, especially with the snow reflecting the light.
