    Small town New England
I know few of us know each other FTF so I say that up front.

I sometimes wonder why I truly enjoy drinking. i think about the cocktails I drink or make and the good taste. I think about champagne in its various grades....

I think about things appearing more rosy from the bottom of a glass...hmmm....

    What sayeth you????

    Why?
"Well the grapevine done told me, what they see and hear.
The must like to watch me, get tears in my beer.
Well I found that new someone, you may say she's trash.
Well she ain't much to see, but she looks good to me, through the bottom of the glass."
    Doyle Lawson I believe.

    Nope, Seldom Scene

No. Pain relief mostly. It works on nerve pain.

I stopped drinking the day before my 40th birthday.
It was simply a personal decision that made sense for me.
So now I’m always the designated driver - and I’m plenty OK with that.

That doesn’t stop old friends from telling wild made up fabricated exaggerated stories about events when I maybe possibly could might have had a drink or twelve too many....

I drink because I like to. In moderation always, you'll never see me buzzed or drunk. I appreciate all the nuances and flavors of different booze.

But mostly now because of the accumulation of injuries. Ibuprofen ate a hole in my gut and was on percocet for years. I don't take either now, and am married, so wine, whiskey (all kinds), rum, cognac, Armangac, calvados, tequila, vodka, gin and even jagermeister can be found on my bar. And the only "cheap" stuff I get is Jack.

Seriously, it's just enough to help relax, take away some pain and get me through the day.

Get you through the day? What time do you start?

I drink sporadically but when I do it is because I get tired of running face first into things that suck and that I cannot change. After a few weeks I stop and start going forward again.

Alcohol has no clock when to start or finish . Was on a plane to Florida once 7 am flight stewardess gets on the horn we like to apologize but we have no milk on board to serve with breakfast. The pilot would like to buy everyone 2 drinks for the inconvenience, first time drinking Jack and Coke at 7am in the morning.

When I moved to Houston, I wound up in a lift with a guy who was recounting his weekend to a colleague. His son asked, ' Daddy, why do you drink?'' His response was "Because of you son'. It was especially good with his swamp ass accent. I use the excuse often

And if that ain't country, I'll kiss yer ass.

Why did i have to read this on shift... cant wait to have a hot date with my Traeger and my evening crown when i get off ?

Conversing with my neighbors with the goal of getting them up to speed on things they've been conditioned to ignore, as well as trying to get them to stop arguing about petty bullshit and start taking the actions necessary to restore liberty is an arduous and trifling task. The monotony of this task is exacerbated by the inevitable occurrence of the statist fuckbois.

Also, I try to ride the QnD peak (similar to the Balmer Peak), wherein my concern for the consequences of pushing the boundaries of peoples' patience is minimized without substantially compromising my ability to reason on topics ranging from shit I know to shit I never thought of before.

Mainly, though.. I just like the taste of whiskey.

Drinking keeps me from getting called into work...

I drink........Because I am a member of the top tier species on this spinning top.

Dogs, cows, cats etc are limited to drinking water from what ever source they are lucky to find.

In the same vein I bathe because the Creator has gifted humanity with the ability to have more palatable options than licking our balls clean.

As a human, fortunate to live in a successful capitalist Republic, I enjoy choice and what I choose to drink is an exercise of my freedoms.

    I drink because ""Murica!"

I drink to enhance what is already good......good company, good food, good times.

I drink to experience different flavors....how does an amber liquid in one bottle taste like caramel ice cream topping and yet another bottle identifying it as the same product tastes like the black soil of a fertile field mixed with the flavor of smoked meat?

I drink to exercise some discipline. As a lightweight I may get two glasses then I know I should call it done. Go beyond that Im probably risking things on the road. If at home Im probably going to have to pilot the bed and wake up feeling like shit. After one of those Im usually screwed and wont be able to enjoy drinking again for a period of time, so I must be rigorous in "pacing" myself.

Drinking is a skill - you either do it right and look professional or you fuck it up and make an ass of yourself.

Whatever you drink.....drink it because its what you want to do, not compelled or craving to do!

For enhancement of the good and or to dull out what is bad. 2-3 stiff drinks is typically the right amount to achieve balance
    in the good or bad.

@pmclaine - why the sad ice croutons in your delicious whiskey soup? ?

I have a drink because I enjoy it. Wine, beer, and good whiskey, be it scotch or bourbon.

I occasionally have a little extra. Usually keep it under tight control.
Usually just 1 or 2 because it tends to wreck my sleep if I have more and if I waste even 10 minutes of any day feeling hungover, Im seriously not happy about it.
Im here to live, not loaf about with a headache and feeling nauseated.

It's something that makes my 7-Up, O.J., tomato juice, etc. taste better...

That really isnt correct. Growing up next to a dairy farm was educational. Every fall they would cut the corn and blow it into to the silo. All the weight would compress the corn and squeeze the juice out. The heat would cause it to ferment and by the time it got to the drain hole in the bottom it was pretty potent 'corn liquor'. There was one cow that would hang out by the drip spout and lap up the 'squeezins' and get so looped she could hardly walk. Pete, the owner of the farm, said she gave more milk than any in the herd. ;)

    Been there, done that!

Scotch and quality tequila. why? Taste and makes me a lot more social...
Plus red wine which tastes great with food.
I try to only drink on weekends. Mostly due to calories and cost. Decent alcohol gets expensive if everyday!

I like sitting at a bar and bullshitting and talking business, politics, guns, and women with my friends. I also need a drink or two before I go home to my wife at the end of the day. Just makes being married tolerable, almost.
