New to forum, new build, where are you shooting in central KY?

I just put one of the light weight Whistle Pig barrels on my sons 10/22 and I must have hit the barrel lottery with it. It is absolutely amazing with SK Standard Plus. It had a Feddersen on it which shot great bu the WP barrel shoots noticeably better. My son is 9 so that weight savings was a huge deal for him at 22 matches. I’ve been looking at Carbon fiber barrels for my other sons CZ 457. Right now I’m eyeballing the Proof Research. I was just curious how the CF barrels seem to perfom compared to their steel counterparts.

The only people making light weight barrels for the 457 are whistle pig and Proof. I have a w.p. and I am not.impressed unless shooting cci suppressor. I have talked with the guys at area 419 and 2 people on a facebook group. Reports from 419 are the the proof shoots as good as a bartlein drop ins. No difference. Facebook guys say they ate shooting very well. One guys said he saw no difference between factory barrel and proof til he got to 200yd groups

Yeah, with the WP it is kind of a lottery. The factory barrel I have shoots so well it would more than likely be a step backwards for the rifle. With the Proof I know I will be getting a shooter. I can get a pretty good deal on a proof right now and that is what I plan to buy. It always amazes me how some high end barrels don’t seem to preform any better until you start shooting distance. It would seem that a tight group is a tight group but for whatever reason things change past about 150 yards. I have seen it happen myself.

just adding some more experience with whistlepig barrels.

Nakoa1 and I talk often and we both have had a bunch of WP barrels (2 cz 455/457 barrels one in 22lr and 1 in 17hm2 and 1 rprr barrel 22lr). Nakoa1 has had probably 5 or so maybe a few more. My buddy has a 10/22 barrel and it shoots pretty well.
My boys RPRr barrel will shoot 1/2” 5 shot groups at 50 yards with RWS pistol match pretty regularly. The gun does have some extraction issues but I haven’t bent the extraction spring yet as recommended by others here but the accuracy is pretty dang good for a stock trigger.

my cz455 22lr barrel didn’t shoot that good but after messing with the RPRr barrel I am blaming it on the thread length and not using a suppressor adapter for my can.
The Cz 455 17hm2 barrel shot just as good as my cz 17 HMR varmint barrel.

I am trying to get a local guy that makes CF 10/22 barrels to make a 457 cf barrel. I loaned him my 457 barrel to get some measurements but I haven’t heard what he has decided.
A proof barrel would be awesome but that’s a bit steep for a barrel on the 457.

OP - looks good. Please post some groups with it. Always good to see how other barrels shoot.
