Im fairly confident he did not dodge shit. They had to bury his hand.
The fact that the virus has surfaced, in a significant way, in Qum is interesting and not good for Sandland in general. That's a religious center... and is full of pilgrims at all time. They come, they go... they spread disease.
Tehran... wouldn't matter as much. That place is in constant lockdown. Qum is a whole different animal. It's also the home of the religious foundations (the mullah's and ayotollah's) of the regime.
If this hits Iran hard... it will be like a nuke going off. In more ways than one.
Well, couldn't happen to a bunch of nicer terrorist-types. If this goes bad, it will be regime change...

There is a great documentary done by PBS American Experience on the 1919 Influenza epidemic... used to be free on YouTube, but since it's a hot topic now, PBS is charging for it. Ground zero "may" have been Ft. Devens. But there are epidemiologists now who say it was found in the U.S. Midwest earlier and may have gone to Europe with troops... then come back with them. That is still a conjecture, though.
But the PBS piece is worth watching if you have Hulu or Prime or something. From the days before all PBS produced was crap.
The interesting thing is that, even in 1919, the flu burned out pretty quickly when people changed their habits. They stopped going out, mainly. Including shopping, church, movies, theaters, schools, etc. And it only takes a couple of weeks of that for a flu to burn out. So the 1919 flu killed something like 19 million... but it could have been much worse. And it also affected young people at a higher rate. Making longer-term effects for economy, etc. than one that targets older or more infirmed folks.
It will be interesting to see what happens, though, in a Muslim Country where you go to the mosque multiple times a day. Where you share washing facilities and close proximity. Where water and sanitation is not as good. And where the reaction of an un-educated slice of the population (in Iran, not the young people... but the more vulnerable older and poorer people) treat the pandemic as a punishment from their deity... and try and pray their way out of it. The more they go to the Mosque... the more it may spread. This was one of the factors in the plague in c. 1347 - 50. Which wiped out a good chunk of Europe. Like half of it. Fortunately, the death rate of Corona Virus is, what, 2 percent? The Bubonic plague, in the 1300's, was something like 90 percent death rate and a 50% chance of contracting it. So far worse. But religion had a major effect in spreading it, including pilgrims, churches and roving clergy and religious folks... while the main population was rooted into one place. The Clergy roamed. Oops.
The reality is that, short of a mutation, Corona is nasty, but not a slate-wiper. That said, it can cause economic effects and, yes, regime change, if a teetering country like Iran has people who have lost faith in their Mullah's already... and need a tipping point.
Qum is about one of the worst places you could want to have a virus hit.... But at least it's not something like a bleed-out virus!

Walk through a New England Cemetary that goes back that far... our village lost more than 5 percent of its people 1919-1920. Now that was only 30 people. But in a town of 500 at the time... how devastating is that?Saw that PBS show.
Seems like Kansas might have been the origin but due to the number of soldiers congregating at Devens to pass on to Europe it became a hub.
Spain kind of got slandered by having the Flu named "Spanish Influenza".
That was a result of the censorship happening in the belligerent countries. None of them wanted to let it be known that their civilian population was suffering and their soldiers were dropping fast. Spain being a neutral country was reporting on the deaths from the flu so media wise it seemed that they were the only ones experiencing it at first.
Pre Purple Heart days the Govt issued a "certificate" framed, signed by the President when a soldier died in service. My wifes Great grandfather died in Devens from flu and that certificate hangs down stairs.
Devens has a pretty good museum if you are ever in the area.
Iran does mayor trade with China ,while US blocks much of their oil trade from their ports sanctions are far less effective over land borders with Turkey,Pakistan,Iraq (Iraq runs on Iranian gasoline), Afghanistan, they have bunch of Chinese construction companies working on all sorts of projects so its not realy suprising infections spread.
Shir is fantasizing a bit ,but that is understandable as TV is bad place to learn stuff .
Tehran is never realy on lockdown , its huge city (15mio folks if you count the suburbs)so infection there would be far worse for them ,as milions of migrant workers work there.
Irans population is growing by more than a 1.1Mio per Year probably more so as Afghanis are immigrating in ever larger numbers . Like much of ME its population is very young (no wonder as blatant disregard for traffic rules means that once you are past 40 you have little chance of crossin the road alive?)
It will be interesting how Saudis and rest of GCC handle shit as they run of slave workforce from Asia to get anthing done. Not to mention have Meka pillgrims for aroudn the world.
As for terrorist bastards , Iran wouldn't make it even into top 10 , MSM and admin lying about it doesn't make it true.
