Hey there everyone. I'm a new-ish shooter looking for new people to shoot with and learn from, and new places to shoot. I'm in the New Braunfels/San Marcos area south of Austin but I can drive a little ways on the weekends. I haven't dropped the $ for a chronograph yet so if you have one I'd like the opportunity to see what my rifle is doing. Thanks

I'm in Cedar Park, don't have a chrono and the range I shot at is closed (best of the west). I'd be interested in a place where I can shoot further than 300 yards.

Yeah me too. I shoot a 200 yard range in NB. I think CTSA goes out to 500-600 but that's a private club

Copperhead creek on Hudden Falls land goes to 600 but long range qualification cost $50. Depending on what they have you do, that's pricey.

I’m in cedar park as well. Copperhead creek has been my go-to since BOTW closed their rifle range. Being a member there is great because you can go any time sun up to sun down, open or closed (100 yards only when they’re closed, long range when they’re open). I also have a chronograph and don’t mind traveling to check out new ranges, as long as there isn’t a short time limit. I like to shoot at least twice as long as the drive took.

I haven't been to Copperhead Creek yet, it's about 90 minutes from me. I'll have to check it out someday

If you can swing an annual membership to Austin Gun Club, they have four lanes that stretch to 1,000 yards and one lane that goes to one mile.

You can bring guests and have them pay a guest fee.

Lots of steel starting at 300 yards, paper at 100 yards.

    Great shotgun ranges also.

    It is located in Lampasas.

    Great people?

How far are you from Pearsall? I have a membership at 7foxtrot and can take guests.

I’ll be there at least once a month practicing. Hopefully 2x a month.

It's about 90 minutes from me. I'm about halfway between ATX and SA. We probably have some mutual friends because I've already been invited down there for a match. I plan to go at some point, just waiting til it isn't 100° outside anymore lol.

December is a long wait lol

Well I wasn't planning to wait that long haha. But if it's 100 til then I'll have time to save for a gucci scope

If 100 is your threshold, you better find a hobby for the other 8 months of the year. ?

Also new to the ling range game, in austin. Bear in mind that copperhead creek is closed mondays and Tuesdays. Found that out today the hard way. Avoid eagle peak. They have a flat ban on FMJ ammo for rifles. Past that there are not many great options I'm aware of outside several hours drive or prohibitively expensive membership fees.
    I'm game for a meetup.
Edit: if you are into driving, it's a beutiful one out to copperhead. Makes up for some of the time to get out there. Dont speed in lagoon vista.

CCC range in navasota is within a couple hour drive of Austin I believe. Awesome range and the membership fee is very reasonable.

I will definitely look into Copper Creek soon. And @Dthomas3523 I can shoot in the heat just fine ?. I was using that as my excuse to give me time for a new scope lol. My Vortex Diamondback Tactical is in MOA (because I didn't know any better at the time), and doesn't have the glass quality I need. Here in about a month I'll have a gen2 PST on order in mil/mil so I think I'll be more ready then.

Have to make a 1 inch 3 shot group at 100. I think you get 5 tries per $50? Something along those lines

Would this be an open invite? I'd love to go get some practice in out at 7Foxtrot to verify my shots. Shooting the match tomorrow. Will you be there?

Yes sir. I was there this evening. Will be there tomorrow (today now) for match.

I plan on being there the third Friday each month before the monthly match. Won’t be practicing the cof specifically, just general practice and dope gathering.

There is also a team match on the 7th. Hopefully I’ll be there the 6th as well.

Is the long distance rage steel?
Goes out to 600 with multiple steel plates at each yard line. Everything from 4+ moa gongs to full and half ipsc to 1moa plates. Sorry the photo didn't load well. IMG_20190818_140032_452.jpg

Super easy, just expensive. You have to shoot a 3-shot group at 100 yards within an inch. And you get 3 or 4 tries. Took me thirty seconds but cost $50 for the certification. The cert is good forever though
The place is super lax though. Really cool facility. I think they just keep the price up to keep the rifraf out

The tac bays out there are also way more relaxed than BOTW if y'all are into that sort of shooting.

I'm in CENTEX, but haven't found a good range where you can really train at around here. Where I have been going as a guest isn't exactly Central Texas, but it's a damn fine range and great people. Talking about Tac-Pro in Mingus. I'm in Temple, and it's about a 2 hour drive, maybe a little less, but it is well worth the drive. They have some nice "bays" where you can set up your steel and run drills to your hearts content. Plus some 100 yd and then their 300, 400, 500 and 1000 yard ranges, but those are only for members and their guests. I'm considering a membership in spite of the distance because the only other range in my AO is a regular sit-at-a- bench and shoot paper @ 100 while having to deal with the guy who takes 30 minutes to shoot 4 rounds, not to mention the idiots sweeping you and the guys who spend more time talking than shooting. (Webers) I do have some private land I shoot on, but the max range there by my rangefinder is 340, and the guys who like to train and shoot like I do - well they are in North Texas, I haven't found any in my area. Guys who like to talk about training, but that's about all they do.

Here are some other options you could explore.

    http://www.austingunclub.com/ - 1:15 from Temple
    https://www.copperheadclub.com/ - 1:23 from Temple
    http://cccshootingcomplex.com/ - 1:37 from Temple
    https://www.joshuacreek.com/ - 2:03 from Temple
    https://www.triplecrange.com/ - 2:05 from Temple
    https://www.tacproshootingcenter.com/ - 2:11 from Temple
Thanks, I'll check those out. I just went to Tac Pro Shooting yesterday and I think I lost about 8 pounds in water from sweating. But it was a good training day with some really good sets.

This weekend (sat) is the centex PRS monthly as well, since you've been putting in the practice.

Does anyone go to the Navasota one? Never shot a PRS event but would be cool to go with someone from the hide.

I normally shoot the match at CCC on the second Saturday of the month. Won't make the match this coming Saturday but, should be there next month.

If wanting to shoot central, need to sign up soon. I think less than 20 spots left on practiscore

You don't have to be a member to shoot in their matches - F-class at 500 m/yds. Check their website, and E-mail them about any questions.

I shot there in December for the first time. Qualification was straightforward (3 shot 1MOA group) and the long range area was nice. Good amount of targets of varying sizes and shapes.

I'd love to go back but it's now youth baseball season so much of my free time is spent there. That's what kept me from joining as a member. I'd have to go twice or more per month to get my money back with the membership.

Deitz in NB goes to 200 yards, Copperhead Creek in Marble Falls goes to 600. And I got me a magnetospeed now ?

CTSA is just past Deitz, some of the local prs guys practice positional shooting up there with barricades. Think you have to be a member or guest of one to shoot up there

Austin Rifle Club... despite the name, only goes to 200y. That said, it's useful for load development, etc. The club itself is super backward, but we're working on it. We may have a .22 match firing up there, soon, hopefully with a date that doesn't conflict with anything else in the general area. We've gotten them to let us hang NRL style targets on the D&E ranges, now, and practice from barricades and the like, so it's viable for .22 practice.

I'm in Round Rock. Might be checking Copperhead out. Austin Gun Club is too rich for my blood - and CCC (while extremely well equipped) is too far out for me to end up at for regular enough practice to make the price worth it. If one of those places were closer than an hour, I'd consider it, cause I could make it out there multiple times per week after work when it's still light.

Edit to add... Reveille Peak Range is open, now, too. Targets to 700y, and reasonable pricing. This is right at an hour from Round Rock - closer for Cedar Park. http://www.rprrange.com
