Ammo Prices: The Panic is On - Big Time

He jacked up Wolf Gold to $459 a thousand.

Maybe he had to obtain that revenue in order to pay the prices his distributors are requiring him to pay to replenish his inventory? I mean, sure, he paid X when he bought what you are now paying that much for, but he can't just turn that money around and buy another 1,000 to sell at what he first paid for X.

Just a thought.

FYI...check out this pallet of ammo being loaded up at Lake City. Each box contains two ammo cans with 900 rounds of 5.56 ammo, so, you can calculate just how much ammo that would be on a full pallet. So, let's say they stack three levels: that's what...64,000 rounds? Which again leads me to ask the dude who said he had a pallet full of .223 on order....what the heck are you doing with that much ammo? Belt fed? Quad-mounted 5.56 machine guns?? Inquiring minds would love to know.

If anybody needs Colt branded steel case ammunition in 556 and lives in the Maryland Virginia area...

I’ve got a 40 mm grenade can Full of the stuff I wouldn’t mind getting rid of.

it’s obviously Colt branded Russian ammunition....

Does all that deflection get more predictable if the bullet partially fails on its way through the barrier?
Nope. Even with bonded bullets, when they hit electrical conduit, wiring, plumbing, or whatever else is in walls, they may not fragment, but they go wherever.

Pretty sure now is not a good time to be getting rid of ammo, FWIW.

Had a pallet of, believe it or not, 8mm Mauser delivered once.

That was fun....

If the price is right, now is the perfect time to be un-assing ammo you won't shoot. Civilization isn't going to end. We're not going "Mad Max." This is the typical neurotic gun guy panic buying that happens every time the talking heads on the tv start saying the sky is falling. Buy low, sell high. It's a sellers' market.

I bought a 50 round box of CCI SV today, because I walked by it at Academy. It's more than I'll need for this "panic."

Yeah, I bought, as it turns out, about 50,000 rounds of 22lr... the CCI nylon coated stuff... various velocities.

All the same lots...

Just went by the LGS. Totally cleaned out. This is second hand, but the owner said Federal told him 8 months for his restock order. He said "this is crazier than Sandy Hook"

No I doubt it.
He has enough product to continue selling for months.
It's utter horseshit

They all kill. Some do it faster than others. A .22 can put 10 rounds in a fairly small group in about the same time as 1.5 to 2 of 5.56 with less recoil and noise. Not that I'm recommending that as either better or preferable. Just another tool in the tool box. W/ a suppressor, you could put 1-3 rounds in someone and be gone before they knew what hit them. And when hospital beds are scarce...

I want to start loading 55gr vmax for all my ammo hoarding. On soft tissue it is explosive. If it works good on coyotes, good enough for me. They’re tougher than your average thug or criminal.
50-60 gr vmax will kill a lot bigger things than a coyote

Ammo has been at rock bottom and plentiful for quite some time. Anybody that’s panicking and looking to buy ammo right now - simply hasn’t been paying attention and certainly has no understanding of how the ammo market works. If you are having to pay the higher prices now - you deserve it!

Just took a look at AmmoSeek and the prices being asked for 5.56....it would appear the price per round has gone up since last week by 20-25% and more. As supplies dry up, expect it go higher.

Just FWIW.

Love,
Captain Obvious.

Vances Obetz. You have to take a number and stand at the door now to get in. Thats how they are staying open and keeping less than 100 people in the store. People got pro gun real. Fuckin. Quick.
We seem to frequent the same places.
I pulled in day before yesterday just to kill some time(you just never know what you “need” until you go to a gun store :ROFLMAO:) saw their line and left.
I’m good on supplies but like that store.
We’ll have to meet sometime.

Even the anti-gun Liberals are buying guns and ammo, worried about what might happen and they have to defend themselves. The bastards should have to sit at home unarmed and just wait to become victims the same way they wanted all of us to do. I wouldn't sell a Liberal POS a BB gun.

And I remember watching reloaders weep and wail when they could not buy components during a previous "panic" situation. What goes around comes around!

:)
I'm sure most of us learned and kept supplies stocked after the last panic. I know I did.

Yup, and I likewise raised my "minimum inventory levels" for my ammo purchases and am thankful for what I have at hand now. You can warn people and try to tell them to be ready and prepared, but until a situation arises where they are left feeling behind the curve, way too many people learn the hard way.

My wife and I were talking about how much ammo I have and how much I need. She said she doesn't want to live in a situation where we have to kill people and get shot. I promised her I would shoot her first. She said, "Yes, but you only need one bullet for that." And I said, "No, two, because you are so hard headed."

Gallows humor time, I guess.

At the price most new production ammo was going for less than a year ago, it was almost impossible to load it any cheaper for the common plinking stuff. Hell, now that I think of it, even the Berger Munitions, Prime, FGMM, etc., were all quite inexpensive. I'm a re-loader, and have a large stock of components, but it was hard to justify the time at the bench, and even now looking at the backstock of loaded munitions.

well shit, guess i have to pull the dust cover off the xl650. Sure did like the low prices of ammo the last few years. There are things i would rather do than reload, but WTF. Thank god i spent what i did on components years ago and have kept adding to even though i wasn't shooting much as i wanted. Time to make a little money

Guys, when loaded/commercial ammo goes up, so do the hand loading components and equipment. When loaded ammo is in short supply, so are the hand loading components. Unless you have been loading for the past few years and buying in bulk you are way behind the power curve here. This is like my 10th damn industry panic since 2000. Trust me.
