What is the base difference for one of these vs the elite? Just the number of gun/cartridge profiles it can store?
 
Not a big technology guy and see a bit of limitation on what these can provide but still my wallet wants to open.

I own no smartphone.....Is this a stand alone device?

this is exactly what you use if you don’t want to use your smart phone.

I bought one die to the summer heat and I didn’t want to have my phone out all day. Batteries drain, phone gets destroyed, and you can’t see the screen when needed. Kestrel all the way.
 
Used a Kestrel at Sig Sauer.

Dont recall what version.

It had Applied, had menu choices for common match bullets, allowed for inputting profiles for a few personal rifles......

Was a good tool within its limitations.

This one sound similar to what I used?

I am no pro, that's for sure, far from it, but the sense I've gotten since getting into this (on the limited basis that I have) is that the Kestrel is not thought of as having a lot of limitations regarding what it's designed to do. As a matter of fact I'm under the impression that it's thought of as being as good as it gets (in a general sense.) As in being THE GO-TO TOOL of ballistic solving. I picked one of these up in the first go-round from Doug and am looking forward to putting it to use.
 
So want to buy but I see the point of this being suited for 800 yards and in as well it will only hold profiles for 3 rifles.

Its a fantastic deal.

I want to jump but my thoughts....

Would be great for my .223 guns - mostly my M40 Bolt R700.

Might be limited for my .308 R700s - I would need this tool most from 750 out.

Convince me this is the girl. I dont want to be the guy that waited for Kate Upton when he had Jennifer Anniston naked and waiting.
 
Truthfully the most value I will get from this is the weather stats to satisfy my OCD.

In the rare instances I shoot to 1000 yards there is so much happening down range that I look at the returned solution than generally factor in what my eyes are telling me......

Just trying to be an informed buyer.....

I feel like Im looking a gift horse in the mouth.

$250 will cover 90 percent of my use and for $190 more I can add the two more rifle profiles I want AND I will get a little more help guesstimating my dope out to 1000 yards?

So does the $190 upgrade to elite include applied ballistics? Or the ability to buy/use their custom drag models?
 
I guess you have to factor the $60 transfer cable into the cost of upgrading to the elite unless you are fortunate enough to have a friend in the vicinity with one.

Says you can mail the unit to Kestrel and they do the upgrade. No peripherals to buy but I guess owning the cable is a good idea for future upgrades.
