Does anybody inside neck ream?

eh my 308 brass has thesse striations and i still shoot tony groups. my ES and SD did start going up eventually so I started using K&M manderel as the last step, it pushes all the imperfections to the outside well enough.

I have tried previously to "iron out" the inside of a neck by repeated sizing and such. All it did was give me a sore arm, a bunch of busted cases, and a reason to buy an annealer from working brass too hard.

The ONLY way I personally found to do it reliably was with a custom tool I made for a Redding Type S bushing die. The big screw which holds the bushing in place, I made a custom one with a ball expander on it, which I turned to an exact diameter. Send the brass into the die, press the ball expander in, back it out, the remove brass from die.

It was VERY sensitive to brass thickness, for obvious reasons. Again, it was an exercise in "what can be done". The original point of the experiment was to try and align badly (and I mean badly) out of round brass.

Yes it works, no don't do it.

What condition is your ball expander in ? I've had to polish a few as over the years they showed signs of marring ? And lightly lubing the expander helps, you either have to post clean, or use a dry lube. This was covered earlier.

I always polish them prior to use. I actually have several and take them down to .0005 under my mandrels.

I ordered some graphite to start dry lubing. Otherwise its Unique or One shot as part of the sizing process.

Picked up an IDOD turner recently. It cuts both inside and outside at the same time. Downside is, by design it’s not really a skim turner. Needs to cut at least as much as the runout in brass. A mandrel turner with floating chuck can skim turn and keep neck wall consistent.

Gonna see if I can tell a difference in performance. I have noticed I’m getting more consistent seating pressure without using lube. Usually I use lube to keep it uniform.

Idod would be sweet. They actually dont shoot bad. Highest ES was 20 on my latest ladder test. if i do anything Im leaning toward a .306 inside reamer from forster and using the neck bushings to control the ID and how much I take off. As it stands a .336 bushing is resizing the inside to just over .306 so if i bump down to a .335 bushing i can start scraping the walls. Going smaller as needed. Its really just a one time thing.
