Friday, I had my first experience with actually drawing blood with a Thermal. I pretty much got lucky and found a sounder of about 12. I was using a .300BO suppressed, Thermion XP50, 125gr FMJ supers, and a tripod. shots were pretty much 20-75 yds with the exception of the last shot close to 200yds. If you are as new to this as I am, the best way to describe it is like being inside of a video game. Meaning you have to stay in the screen to find targets unlike looking with your eyes and having the gun follow. The only thing I didn't expect that was mentioned in another thread I read here was it nuc'd while I was shooting. Didn't lose the pig over it, but now I have a decision to make about changing it to manual. I'm pretty happy with my performance considering not having any experience with thermal hunting. I had 5 confirmed and 1 probable (found blood on the fella near the gravel road). Found 3 that night and 2 more the next day. The sow was the first shot. She ran hard but she didn't know it was over. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to convert the MP4 to a GIF or other acceptable format to post here. I was cautious of using some random site I don't know to do it. If you know how I can get that done message or answer up, cause I'd really love to post the video.

Awesome! I was hooked after my first kill with thermal. I’ll use one as long as hogs are around.

I use Pulsar Trails, so it’s probably a little different, but to me semi auto nuc is the way to go.

As far as getting the video to the correct format, after the video is downloaded and formatted for sharing, I copy to VLC. That is a program you will have to download to your phone or tablet. I don’t know if Pulsar fixed the issue with no sound when playing recordings, but VLC gives you sound. You may not need it.
While playing the video in VLC I do a screen recording, then edit the screen recording on my phone. You may have to google how to do that, I had to. On an iPhone you can add screen recording to your control center, and I had to google that too.
This was the way I was told to do it a good while back, but there may be better ways now. I still do it this way, so I am interested to see how others do it.

VLC will also stream that video to a specific port, which whatever video software you're using, can listen to (the port) to ingest it for editing. VLC is some very versatile freeware to have loaded, if you mess with a lot of FMV/video.

I still say, the nastiest, mean, tear shit up round in the 300BO was the 130 SOST bullet. Holy crikey that bullet wreaked hell on shit. You wouldn’t be eating anything shot with that bullet.

I’m actually really surprised Federal doesn’t offer it in 300BO for hog hunting, as it seems tailor made for that case (despite it being designed for a 308 case).

I recently threw together a budget AR10 in 308, then put a Trail XQ50 on it for a backup rig. I was shocked to see how well a Hornady 168 bthp match bullet works. I’ve only taken 2 pigs & a coyote with it, but from what I’ve seen so far I think I may actually like it better than the TTSX I shoot out of the 30 wssm.
