Hey there folks. Dropping a thread to say hello and admit long time lurker throughout the years.

I bought a Savage 110 BA Stealth in 300WM with a Viper PST Gen 2 years ago and finally took a long range course at Altus earlier this year. Caught the long range bug. I also realized 300WM is not nearly as fun for precision as hunting.

So for the new build I jumped on the 6.5CM wagon and wanted something I’d keep for a long time. In the works for the build right now, but went with a MCS PRS mini gen 2 chassis, Impact action, proof SS barrel and trigger tech trigger. Would love to hear thoughts on glass and your experiences. Right now it’s between a Vortex Razor HD with the 7C reticle or NF ATAC. Save some pennies with Vortex is my learning option, as well as warranty since I’ve been called butterfingers once or a few dozen times in my life.

Looking forward to learning a ton from the group and hopefully contributing something myself down the road. Anyone around the Tampa area let me know!

Welcome from CO. Where in FL are you? I lived in Ft Myers for a few years a while ago

Sounds great, 99, you know the ropes probably sounds like, Welcome in the Sniper’s Hide, from SC. 🤙 Have at it.

I’m a bit south of Tampa. Bounced around Lakeland, Jacksonville, then settled down where I’m at now. Love that coast from Sarasota down to Naples. Why the move to CO?

Got tired of the oppressive heat/humidity. I’m a mechanic and the shops I worked in weren’t climate controlled, they had garage doors down all sides and giant fans that moved hot air around. I’m originally from the Midwest and really liked the first year or so though. I got to spend that first Christmas in shorts and flip flops, that was cool. I also thought I would get more into beach life and boating, maybe some fishing, a lot more but that never happened

Makes sense man. Same boat getting into beach and water stuff- I take location for granted and rarely go there.

Now that I have little kids I’m spending less time in the mountains too, which is bumming me out. In a few more years though they’ll be ready to start camping and I can get them behind a .22

I bailed on south florida for colorado too. Now I can actually shoot LR, at elevation, with inclines. The trade off has been worth it so far. Miss the water but thats about it.

Sounds like a solid plan! Would love to get out to the mountains one day. Flat and hot is getting old.

I may have moved on from living in FL but I still can appreciate the south, just not in August.

Heard that. I moved to Charleston, SC in August from Kentucky. Big ol wtf did I get into moment.

lol, indeed. I moved from Davenport, IA to Ft Myers in May and that was terrible. I also moved from Ft Myers to Denver in September, that was quite a shock too, just the opposite way and much more pleasant

You don’t miss weeks of rain, hurricanes, mosquitos, and 90% RH?
Blech, fuck no

It’s love bug season right now. I think we all can agree nobody would miss them
Nope, don’t miss those little bastards. The bumper cover of the car I used to drive was permanently damaged because of those fucking things

Yup. The chrome on my tow mirrors and some of the paint on the bumper is permanently wrecked. If I had to do it over again I would have done ceramic coating after I bought it

At least in miami that ocean breeze keeps all those bugs pushed into the everglades. Feel sorry for the west coast and central fl guys.

Welcome aboard. Have family in the Venice area so spend a bunch of time down there. Great in the winter, now not so much!

I have a few times, only out to their 300 line though. From what I’ve heard the 1,000 has been closed down and only have the 600 as the longest now. 👎

It’s about 45 minutes away so not too bad of a drive. RSO’s have always been respectful and not over zealous.

Never made it out there because it was a +3 hour drive for me. They did build a 1k range in homestead though but initially the management and pricing was retarded so never patronized them either.

The babcock-webb wma by ft meyers has a 200yd range, free access if you have a wma permit. I’ve shot there several times. Also has campsites, rv hookups, etc.

Oof. 3 hours for manatee is way too much for what they have. I do like how they charge for the day and not by the hour like a few ranges around the area.

Babcock might be fun for a weekend with the hookups. 2 hour drive for a 200 yard isn’t a sell by itself.

Believe JTAC is going to be the place to shoot once it opens.
