Hi all,

I'm trying to install a MDT 20MOA scope base to my Tikka T3x CTR. I removed the existing 0MOA factory rail by heating up the rail with a torch to make the epoxy break down so I could go ahead and pull the rail off.

I noticed that there's still a layer of the bedding/epoxy Tikka used on my rifle and unsure if I should continue installing the 20MOA rail before removing all of it. I run my finger nails through it and it feels pretty flat to the touch, but still... Please take a look at the attached photos to see what I mean.

I've tried Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Cleaner, Breakfree CLP, acetone, and torching it some more but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

I would try a razor blade and see if that pics up anything. If the blade won’t remove anything I’d say you’re probably good to go with putting the base on. Also you could try a stainless brush as well.

I tried a brass brush I had laying around, didn't do anything. My shaving razor got a few of the larger bumps around screw holes cleaned up so that definitely helped. Thanks!

I'll give that a try after I grab some from home depot. Does anyone know what the actual bedding material is that Tikka uses?

Not sure, I use purple loctite meant for small fasteners in all my base screws and rings. Apply a small dab under the rail and spread it around. It acts as a great anti moisture barrier if you happen to be putting one on a non stainless action someday.
