I spent a couple days there in 2017. I loved it but didn’t have enough time. We saw some of the high points of the tourist stuff in the area of Reykjavik. I’d have liked to see more of the small towns. It’s a relatively small country and tourists are a double edged sword for them. A lot speak English, which is good because Icelandic was completely foreign, as in not even read the signs foreign.

it’s a beautiful country and I would like to go back, rent a Jeep, and see the East / north sides.

Iceland is great. World's funkiest language, but most everyone speaks decent English. It's a BIG country (geographically), but only has 1/1000th the population of the USA (literally). Go during July/August unless you're Aurora-hunting or water-worshiping. Everything is VERY expensive. I call it the "Inkjet Country" -- they make it cheap to get there, but you'll pay dearly for the privilege. AirBnB is great, you can do a ton of different things. Bring a drone with a 4K camera, because the vistas are E.P.I.C. (!!!). Lots of sulfur odor, because... geysers! Hot springs are awesome and very therapeutic. Taxi's are eye-wateringly expensive.

FYI: They do NOT do Uber.

Here is where you want to be on New Year’s Eve. Their celebration is amazing and the fireworks don’t stop. It is their family tradition and has to be experienced once in a lifetime. The Blue Lagoon, Heart of the Glacier, and Geysirs are not to be missed either.
