How can I determine what size flip caps to get for the Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56. Got one for my brother's rifle and I'm unsure of fitment. What caps is everyone running?

It’s on pare.. they protect the scope; I have these on multiple Vortex optics and can’t complain. The front end have a tendency to pop open a little to easy but not a big issue.

There might be more fancy stuff out there but for me I just need something that protects during transport and keeping in the gun safe.

That's basically what I was looking for, protecting the glass during storage and transport.

I too have the Vortex Defenders on mine. I also had problems with the objective cap flipping open way too easily, had Vortex replace it and the replacement does the same thing. A pain since the eyepiece cap is perfect. Probably going to just rip them off and use the bikini cover that came with it.

That's what I'd read and I don't want to spend money on something that doesn't work properly.

Been using the Defender caps since they came out and they work just fine. Much better than similarly priced caps like Butler Creeks which break if you look at them wrong. The Defenders open and lay flat against the scope so nothing to catch on things. Also if you do break them they are replaced for free. I haven't broken any yet but used to break Butler Creeks all the time.

I've so far got 2 bad objective caps. QC needs a little going over with the defender in my opinion.

AADLAND make caps for the 5-25, that might be the better option. I have to see if they will fit mine due to clearance and if they'll ship overseas.

Free replacement is nice

$100 bucks does seem high but I'm also not opposed to paying for quality gear. I'd rather pay more for something once than have to replace something cheap repeatedly.

True but you need to hear from the many more people who use the Defender caps without issue. Got a couple of issues in this thread but how many sets of caps do you think are out there? Your money though.

That's very true. I would guess there are a blue million sets of those caps out there!

I guess it all boils down to what is the risk assessment you have on any given item you buy.

Risk is two parts:
1) the likelihood that the unwanted happens and
2) the consequences of the unwanted happening.

For me, yea; I know there is a high likelihood that the front side of the defender caps flip up during transport in the gun bag or on the range but since I have the sunshade on both the Razor and the new Strike Eagle I assume the consequences of this happening as zero.

However, If I was patrolling as top cover in a dessert environment and had my issued HK416N on speed clips on the side of the gun ring then the consequences of covers on the Aimpoint opening unintentionally can be catastrophic as then my backup for close engagements can have a optic full of dust.

So, yeas I agree to spend the money and cry once, buy once where it matters and you need a guaranteed function.

They break no questions asked they get replaced. I have them on every scope I own

the two objective caps that made it to me, one via a retailer and the other via the importer didnt even make it on the scope 😂

i have tenebraex caps on my other scopes. if one day they make them for the strike eagle thats what will be on it. i dont mind paying for quality knowing it holds up.

That's soft of always been my thinking. I don't mind paying for quality.

I mean, it's not a huge difference in cost. Significant, yes. Budget busting, no. My natural inclination is towards known high quality products. I suppose I'd prefer to pay more and get a functional high quality product than fight with something inferior just to save a few dollars.

Ok here is a reality smack. You bought a $600 scope and you are stressing on the buying the best quality scope cap ever made for man. Dude just buy what you want.

Not really stressing, just searching for experiences and advice. Interestingly enough, it's not even for my gun, although I did wind up buying another identical scope for another rifle I bought as a budget paper puncher. I got the scope, Mount, rings and currently searching for the caps as a gift to my older brother for no particular reason other than he's always looked out for me. I'd just like to give him something complete that's functional and that he won't have to fight with is all.

there just flip ups. You can spend your money how you like but they all do the same in the end. Plus did you return them to get them replaced? If so who cares unless you needed them immediately

i started with aadmout caps. they stay in place. they're firm. and if you ever break one its a free replacement.

1 match with a nightforce and shit tanabreax objective caps fall off that cost the same price and just LOL

defender caps work mostly. i would run them cause iv'e seen and used too many that pull off completely but id take them over tanabreax

i don't pick aadmount as much for protection as i do convenience in matches. them staying in placing and being rock solid is a benefit
