I have a fairly new rifle and thus I've been cleaning it after each outing at the range. After pulling it apart for cleaning after the last time out (about 120 rounds, various weight bullets), I noticed a bunch of wear I'd not seen before and it was all to one side. Every other outing, the internal components still looked like new upon disassembly. I have about 500 rounds through the gun currently.

Relevant information. Prior to that last outing, I did take the buffer tube off the rifle but reinstalled everything per the manufacturer's torque specifications. My first thought was I'd done something wrong with the buffer installation as it was the only variable other than the brand of cartridges I was shooting (PMC147, American Eagle 150 and Federal Gold Match 165. There's no sign of wear inside the buffer tube.

I had been using Slip2000 EWL30 for lubrication but after seeing this wear, I've moved over to Go-Juice very thin grease. Frankly, I'd prefer to use a synthetic axle grease but I know that'll just gum up with debris.

It's just strange it's all primarily to one side, particularly on the charge handle. Only thing I can think of is if I engage the charge handle (been doing this a lot as I'm firing off one round for testing), I'm tugging on the left side only. I have an elbow injury and grabbing the right side (I shoot right handed) aggravates the injury. It's a small change but it hasn't healed and I'm really watching my motions to keep inflammation down.

A few photos. I'm sure it's normal or related to my charge handle usage but I thought I'd double check. Gun works perfectly and will lodge lead downrange all day long. But the amount of sudden wear after one outing has me concerned. Haven't been back to the range since moving to Go-Juice.

Switch to a light weight grease for the BCG. There are only a few spots that actually contact the receiver. The grease will help better than oil.

    Charging handle wear is normal.

Thanks guys, I've read the cherrybalmz article as well as a few others, hence my move over to the lightweight grease vs. the Slip2000. Doesn't help I'm usually shooting in hot temperatures I'm sure. But good to know I didn't eff something up. Just a bit surprised by the level of wear after one outing.

    It's nomal.

Don't get too worried about grease/oil/whatever.

The good news is, the bolt tells you where it needs lube via where the wear marks are.

I've used everything from Mobil 1, to CLP, to Lubriplate to any high tech whatever oil and have never noticed a difference in anything, ever.
