Reloading Equipment ISO small pistol primers in stock

Right now it's one of those things if you need them then you gon GunBroker pay 100 per 1000. Or just wait till they get i stock. Everyone saying they'll be oos for a long time because ammunition companies get first dibs.

I have enough to get me by but definitely starting to shoot less.

While finding them online is impossible, search your LGS. Maybe have to drive a little. I stopped in a LGS on Monday and picked up 3000 small pistol. They had plenty but did have limits. 1000 limit per type. So I grabbed 1000 CCI 500 Small Pistol, 1000 FGMM Small Pistol and 1000 Remington No 1.5 Small Pistol...I dont need them at all as I have plenty but Ill buy them whenever I see them. They were normal retail pre crazy pricing too.

desperately seeking small pistol primers in stock

As you're looking at local gun stores, keep in mind you can use Small Rifle or Small Pistol. I actually use small rifle primers in my .38 light loads. No real increase in velocity but does improve SD/ES.

I've also used Small Pistol Magnum. Not my preferred but found a brick a month ago hidden behind some shelves at a place and grabbed it while I could.

Refresh grafs, powder valley, and Midsouth webpages every 2 min between 3 and 5. Almost every day one has something usable for spp. Be quick, they last minutes. Powder had fed 100s today. Midsouth had fed srp yesterday which work in a pinch for 90% of pistols.

thanks i have plenty srp, and my lgs has smpp, I didnt realize they would work , Ill look at pv for a couple days before substituting ,but I am getting low on ammo = thanks for the help appreciated

I got a deal on a few cases of srp (CCI 400) last year and have been using them for pistol (9mm) with no ill effects. I have had a few FTF with light strikes but I changed out my firing pin spring and never had a problem again. To date I have run about 8k of them through various guns and they work as they should. Not saying its a smart thing to do just saying it works for me :)

Small rifle for pistol? Never heard of that.

I can’t find it but someone posted a paper on here about the charges and similarities/differences in primers. From what I read, small pistol and small rifle were very similar, most of the difference was cup thickness.

after I tried them in 9mm and .38, testing loads with each over a chrono I didn’t see an issue with it.

I would not run them in 9mm if I was running close to book max, but I don’t really ever do that.

If anyone is in Tulsa, OK Dongs ammo and reloading supply is pretty flush with powder and primers. Had a buddy scoop me up a couple bricks today. 2k limit per day $49.99/1k

Thank y’all for the explanations. I’ll have to explore this option further. I have more srp’s than I know what to do with for the foreseeable future.

If only you lived in Ohio lol... I would take some off your hands. I don't suppose you know anyone that can ship hazmat ehh?

And quite a bad idea at that. Last kaboom I saw was a guy who loaded up his CZ racegun with max load Titegroup and subbed small rifle primers. Blew the extractor out of the gun and both grips cracked. Further inspection showed a cracked chamber. It is unlikely this was a double charge... the 9mm case isn’t big enough to hide it.

You say, "quite a bad idea" and your example is a dumbass who's loading at, or above max charge weights and then changed primers without reworking his load. That could happen by just switching primer brands, let alone types of primers.
The 9mm case is definitely big enough to hold doubled charges of Titegroup and it doesn't matter if it "hides" the charge, if he doesn't catch it then its easy to get in there. I'm assuming by having a CZ racegun he's shooting competition and probably has a Dillon 650/1050 or some fast progressive press, which makes missing a doubled charge that much easier.

Theres HUGE difference between your example, and working up middle of the road loads with SRP vs SPP.... Not to mention every guy on this thread who's talked about using SRP in pistol calibers, including myself has said to work the load just like every other load smart reloaders work up. And I specifically said myself that it would be unwise to run max loads with anything other than the book suggests.

Attached is a pic of a 9mm case with 4.5gr of Titegroup, which is the Lyman Book max charge for 115gr bullet. The second pic is double that, 9.0gr of Titegroup. Thats at the max charge with only 115gr bullet. If you lower that to 3/4 charge, or put a 124gr bullet in there, it gets even easier to double charge it without noticing.

Just trying to put out accurate info...

You could easily fit a triple charge of TiteGroup in a 9mm case, and double without noticing at all....even with 115gr projectiles. I put so little in for my 165gr projectiles I have to double check to see if there’s anything in the bottom before dropping the projectiles on there.

I know my light loads with .38's and Titegroup, I check every single case. At 3.0gr of Titegroup, I think I've gone 4-5 times doubled before I filled the case...obviously that was just setting up my powder measure.

9mm case capacity point well taken. I can see the difference easily enough,p. I imagine a 357 mag case it could get 3-4 charges of Titegroup and it wouldn’t be noticeable at a casual glance.

Still bad idea to run rifle primers in small high pressure pistol cases.

ill edit my post to say, don’t buy small rifles for pistols, maybe I can get some more for my reload room, lol

This is not the PX, there is no trading, selling allowed outside the PX. Especially for you new members...

Post links to in stock primers or leads to LGS...this is not the place to sell and trade your primers
