Guys
Would replacing the H-S Precision stock on a 700P with a KRG Bravo be an accuracy downgrade?

the KRG Bravo has a full aluminum backbone so its a hybrid chassis and stock. personally I have the KRG Bravo and they work great. It's nice to not have to glass or epoxy bed the stock.

Wouldn’t hurt to buy and try if you’re interested. The ergonomics may suit you better and make it more comfortable shooting. I have an HS precision on a savage that I had to add a cheek riser to for sight picture alignment, comfort etc. I like the stock but don’t love it. I also have a Remington in an X-ray that fits and feels great due to the adjustability. If you didn’t like the bravo you would easily be able to sell it and recoup most of your money.

The HS Precision stock is built around an aluminum backbone . Assuming the casting went well and your actions sits properly you won't see any accuracy difference between the two. If accuracy is the only reason you're interested in the Bravo then I would seriously consider spending your money elsewhere.

If there are certain features you like of the chassis systems such as M Lok, Arca rail, adjustable buttstock Etc, you can always add those features to your HS precision stock.

If you like an American straight comb sporter stock, you will prefer the HS as Ido. Adjustable comb on the Bravo and mag feature are solid. I have an HS with mag feature installed. Not my first.

There should be little accuracy difference. I have both and both rifles are very accurate.

I have a Rem 5R SS that came in a HS stock. Sent the stock to Joe Ducos for installation of a KMW (Terry Cross) Loggerhead adjustable comb kit (also well worth it for me). When the stock came back, my gunsmith and I looked closely at the bedding block and it was clear that on MY stock, the action was only touching at two small points around the action screws.

So, we skim bedded it and that really tightened the gun up.

I can't comment on Bravo...never have handled one. But if you want to improve your HS stock, consider having the action bedded. Well worth the money

If you decide to get the Bravo seriously consider getting the aluminum forend. The plastic one that it comes with is pretty flimsy. Works work well supporting a bipod the plastic is pretty flimsy, in my opinion, for various mloc attachments. I went with the enclosed forend, wider, no flex and now I can mount night vision if I want.

What is the purpose for the new stock/chassis? Are you a hunter, do you play PRS games, and everything gun ... makes a difference in which way you go

May I ask who's mag conversion you chose and how it worked for you.

Bench rest shooter. Looking for a mag conversion (AICS) and cheek riser.

Tommy, LRI did it. It failed, they corrected it post haste. Worth it. Accurate mags feed like butter. I have to “press check”. LOL. I bought part and labor from them. I like this do all stock. Contact with receiver reports can vary as receiver actual dimensions vary. No matter the stock / chassis.

Given you're looking at doing bench rest I can see why the HS precision wouldn't necessarily be the best choice. That said, it's still a very solid stock that can be easily modified for what you're needs.

Starting with the adjustable cheek piece ... easily done. I did mine with duct tape and an old mouse pad. It didn't look pretty but was perfect for me and was basically free. There's the wrap-around type that you can install with a hand drill, you can get into cutting the comb off in adding the adjustment pieces. Many options here.

If I were using it just as a benchrest gun and I had the HS Precision stock I would add a rail to the forearm so that I can attach various plates as needed to ride on my machine rest. I would probably also modify the butt stock so that instead of the angle that's on there now have it be more flat, Build It Up, to have more to ride.

The only real downside to modifying the HS Precision stock is mabre the finger-pointing you get at the range. What's fun to do is to outshoot those fuckers. Then laugh at them for how much they spent to not be able to beat you

The downside to this stock and a magazine is some bottom metal dimensions are bigger than others I have had Jared’s and the one LRI installed. Both excellent. Gotta say Jared bedded mine and that rifle was magic.

FWIW, I have a 700 5R that came with the factory green web HS stock. A few years back (when they first came out) I ordered and installed a KRG Bravo stock. I liked the stock and shot it for a while. I recently swapped back to the HS precision and sold the Bravo here. Happy with the decision. For MY uses, the Bravo turned the gun into something much heavier and more bulky than I wanted. Mine is a field gun (lots of steel shooting) and I found the KRG just “too much”. Back to basics. I have plans to remove the Bravo (with Wiskey for end) off my .300wm and put the HS factory M24 back on that as well.

Your mileage may vary.

I found that I needed to re-torque the action screws a few times on the LA Bravo I use on my .300. I meticulously assembled and torqued initially, but after about 100rds (on two occasions) it needed to be snugged up a bit as they were slightly loose. I never noted a zero shift however. They have been fine since.

I like to use Pink Vibra-tite VC-3 on the action screws for good measure. Keeps everything snug and does not harden like blue loctite.

I don’t think it’s a matter of the screws coming loose. Rather an assembly settling, for lack of a more convenient term. Makes a case for not having screws.

My 300 Win Mag, has never been loose in my KRG Xray.
It feels very good to the shooter, and is easy to make great hits with...

Im glad to hear the Bravo gets a pretty decent review for the price point. I'm basically looking to get an external mag on the rifle and for what a decent (made of metal) conversion kit costs (plus add a spare mag) I can purchase a Bravo. Also replacement mags for the Bravo will be AICS, so thats a good thing.
Are you guys removing the bottom rear portion of the bravo stock and adding the additional plate to cover it?

It is a good stock at a good price point. I was happy with it but decided to go back to something more basic. It’s no more complicated than that. After it was torqued down the second time, no further adjustments have been needed. Whether it was user induced, product induced, or the alignment of the planets I do not know. I check the torque on just about everything on occasion so it really doesn’t bother me that much. I’ve been very pleased with both the stock and the customer service I have received from KRG. The LA in question was one of the first available and they went out of their way to get me what I needed. I’m sure you will be more than satisfied if you purchase the stock.

You shouldn't see any difference in accuracy. So I'd say the only reason to switch would be for features/asthetics.

HS Precision sponsored a murderer.

KRG is a bunch of current and former SF guys who by all accounts are good folks. The also make a far better product than HS.

You’re shooting benchrest but want aics mags?
Why?

I’d get neither one for benchrest, get a benchrest stock. Something with a wide flat forearm that will ride and track in the rest nicely. And a butt that is parallel to the front so you don’t have to reset every shot.
The bravo is none of those things.

Finger dexterity isn't great for working a internal mag.

It’s benchrest. Why are you using a mag?

@TommyD11730 throw that piece of HS shit in the trash

I actually had to Google fudd.

"Fudd (plural Fudds) (derogatory) A gun-owner who supports traditional hunting guns but favors gun control for other guns such as handguns or tactical rifles. (derogatory) A bumbling and ill-educated person."

Wow... you got all that about me from a few posts on this forum?

You must be a lot of fun @ Partys 😊 It's a good thing I don't give a damn what you think.

Because my fingers can have trouble loading an internal mag. External mags I can load much easier.
I mean why have a mag at all if you’re wanting to shoot bench rest? Get a sled and make it a single shot where you can just set the next one on top of you’re stuck with a repeater action you already have.
There is a reason no one is shooting benchrest (competitively) and feeding from a mag.
If you want to shoot benchrest then don’t build your gun to go the opposite direction.

Here is a benchrest mag

TommyD, first of all welcome to the SH. There is more knowledge here regarding precision rifles and a greater willingness to share that knowledge than any site on the internet.

I think that some here have gotten off on the wrong foot in trying to help you reach your goals. I believe that I did and just erased several indulgent paragraphs that I don't think would have been of any benefit to you.

When you said "benchrest" I think you have may have thrown many of us a bit of a curve ball. Many of those who have posted took the term very literally. That means a rifle designed to be shot with virtually no shooter input off of a mechanical rest, either one piece, two piece, etc. These rests can cost in the thousands of dollars and have more widjets and adjustments on them than the recent space launch capsule.

I read through your recent posts and it does not strike me that that is your goal. I'm actually not quite sure that you have chosen a rifle or barreled action and that's OK. It appears that you are centered on a .308 in your search and have some concerns about twist rates etc. I'm guessing that "benchrest" means that you will be shooting from a bench and not with an appliance that costs $1000., $1500. or God knows how much.

If you will be more specific about how you will be shooting, your goals, the equipment that fits your budget, etc. the guys here will give you the best possible advice. If it's to 300yds., with a simple front rest or a bipod and a rear bag than tell them. They will argue about bullet weights, twist rates, which bipod, which rear bag, what loads, what glass, what stock and will provide more useful info. than you can possibly digest.

Give them a chance and they will deliver. Again, welcome to SH.
