Do pro snipers reload or use factory loads?

It depends. Many 'snipers' are tasked with taking out things like boat engines or cars or other things like that. In that case, it's all factory ammo. Many people get a messed up view of what 'snipers' really are/do and try to put them into a single box of capabilities.

Uh no... It's issued
Pfft, Amateur. We had reloading rooms set up in the barracks and made the PIGs run the presses all day. Each projectile received a 175-point inspection by the Chief Scout before it was sent to the Assistant to the Assistant Chief Scout for filing/polishing, thus ensuring it would take a man’s head clean off at 1,000 yards.

Don’t forget the countersnipers!

If you look hard you’ll find their overrun scopes made of magical geranium unobtainiom and unicorn blood!!!

I hear they anneal every firing, but that could only be a myth

Well that thread just made my Monday morning... thank you.

Nobody said anything about the Form 4 wait time while the magic ultra-super quiet muffler suppressor silencer is in jail?

They use Hornady 140gr ELD-Ms with green tips because the red tip is not the pro tip. The green tip is the pro tip because it's guided by an AI computer. Some say the computer is located in California and consumes a lot of power when it has to think a lot so that's why there's the rolling blackouts.

Don’t forget to bake your gunpowder to season it before loading, its hygroscopic.

And there is a lot of misinformation on the proper temperature so do your research. Also make sure you use a certified thermometer not the one your wife uses built into the stove to serve no purpose other than giving her the excuses about why the chicken is burnt to jerky.

It has always seemed odd to me how quick everyone bags on a person for using "sniper"..... especially when those same people are on the SNIPERShide forum.....

But to answer the question.... Lots of people who are that S word..... you really wouldn't want loading their own ammo. They are trained to do the job- but it surprised me how little some of them actually understand about ballistics. I was watching some show where "snipers" were talking about some of their longest shots-- and the amount of incorrect technical information was impressive. But they got the job done.

Now, us assassins.... That's a different story- we are much more hands on-- and we not only load our own ammo- we turn our own bullets!

Usually issued. Too dangerous to handle depleted uranium rounds.

I've never been in the military (not even a day) but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once. From the hundreds of interviews and so forth that I've listened to (I'm now a podcast fan) you cannot put all 'snipers' in the same box. A police sniper for example generally won't take a shot at more than 100 ish yards. That's a whole different story than some dude manning an outpost on the top of a building in Baghdad. Some are trained in all different types of shooting. I saw one picture where a guy had a big ass 50 cal with a red dot on it. They were shooting boat engines (in that instance) from a helicopter so his team mates could finish the job. That is a far cry from what say a counter sniper does (IE you go shoot the other sniper) which relies on a whole ton of other skills. They quite literally have all that stuff down to a science when it comes to avoiding detection and thousands of other things. Not getting caught or killed is probably in my uneducated estimation is just as big of a skill in 'shooting' (or rather fighting) than just pulling a trigger. It's not really a thing though to have trained fighters (especially in the military) nerding out over case weight and powder charges. Not getting killed is probably a higher priority.

About the ONLY time I've heard of (in my vast lack of experience) anyone getting anything close to 'hand loads' are the extremely specialized units that may or may not test or deploy new technology. IE rounds that exceed magazine length or use specialized projectiles or whatever. And in those cases they may or may not hire little boutique shops to provide ammo or whatever particularly when specialized technology is involved.

From what I understand the commercial world (including places like this forum) have historically been really far ahead of the military in this aspect. They tend to learn from us, not as much the other way around. At least not historically. The military has a much bigger budget than all of us added together so they can get those new crazy stuff and order 100,000 rounds to try it out, but most of the actual 'shooting' advancements as we would regard them for small arms is done by the commercial market (usually).

I will fully admit that I look at the join date if I see a question that’s”questionable”. And I will also fully admit that if that date is within the last couple of months - then I immediately become suspicious about intent.

Yes, it’s wrong to assume every new guy is an Antifa idiot looking for advice on how to outfit a weapon system to shoot Patriots.

But after reading a couple of these “questionable” new guys’ posts - I feel the additional scrutiny is justified.

I don’t think google will turn a limp wristed skinny jeans wearing sissy-boi into a fierce warrior killing machine. I don’t care how many pages he reads....
