I know that most of us run optics on modern rifles. And I recognize the importance of having a good back up sighting system.

Does anybody here sight in the BUIS or do you leave the windage/elevation settings as they came from the manufacturer? Is this different for fixed vs folding BUIS?

I'm old school in regards to BUIS. I like the idea that if something happens to my optic I can salvage a shot. Yes, today's optics are durable and unlikely to fail, whatever, "two is one..." I make sure my BUIS are sighted in properly for that reason.

Flame suit on.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, this was a serious question. I recently purchased two carbines. They both had factory installed iron sights. I went to the range today and the LMT was dead nuts. Great sights. The LWRC was waaaaaaay off. Not even on paper at 50. It took a little time, but they are now perfect. Again, thanks for the advice and putting up with my ignorance.

Not sure if this helps, but I generally adjust irons on any caliber used to fill the freezer at 100yds, and use holdovers for upto 300yds (diopter sights, rather than a V & blade).

There’s only been the ONE time that the scope failed to the point where I had to make use of the irons, and the resulting shortened distance turned out to be a moot point for any calculated aiming anyway.

You can't be that ignorant since you understand the concept of zeroing sights...…..

Of course they have to be sighted in, otherwise they are useless.

It's simple logic.

This should be a good time
