BAT Tactical Elite actions - ACE

I suppose I should be checking on this, but assume that the action question will get answered by someone who knows.

What does it mean to “keep the same chamber”?

The ACE (Accurizing Chamber Extension) is only a chamber. It's screwed onto the action and it's only job is to hold the cartridge. A barrel, with only the throat for the bullet, is then screwed onto that. When you change barrels, in effect you only change the throat and not the chamber so your brass settings should not need to be modified.

Jamie Dodson said the ACE is compatible with most variations of the BAT TR. I'm thinking of trying it when I need a new barrel.

Like you said, the advantage is keeping the same chamber, and Jamie said he is going to have chambers and barrels in stock so you can order a new one when you need it.

Yeah, I'm saving my money and leaning towards one of his barreled actions. I'm planning on 6.5 Creedmoor. It will be my first custom rifle and my first in 6.5 of any flavor.

The T slot extractor on his BAT actions look nice. My TR has the m16 type extractor and it works pretty good. It doesn't fling brass super far and doesn't hit the windage knob on my scope.

I asked him for a barreled action some time ago, but they where only doing complete rifles at that time. I had SAC out together a barreled action in a TR.

His last podcast sounded like he's trying to get more customers to fully build the rifles. He offered to sell me all the parts/tools so I could put it together myself, come up to the shop and put it together in his "class", or he could put it together for a nominal fee.

Let us know how it goes if you do order one.

Do you remember which chassis he recommended?

He actually didn't recommend a chassis or stock as he says it's too personal. He talks mostly about/supports the MDT ACC and Oryx on the podcasts and lists them as well as the Accuracy International, Cadex and Masterpiece Arms chassis as "recommended" on the website. His last podcast (or one of the more recent ones) tells a story of a class that a few of the students asked if they could shoot the chassis (MDT ACC from what I gather) instead of the McMillan or Manners stocks that they were using and most if not all of them chose to finish the class with the chassis instead of going back to the stock.

I remember that podcast now.

I don't have an MPA, but I did use one for a day and hear a lot of negative things about their stuff. I remember it had trouble feeding from aics mags using a deviant action cut for AW mags.

Jamie is doing a build for me now. After talking with him about my choice of chassis, he suggested I consider an Oryx chassis. I ended up purchasing the Oryx and I'm pretty impressed. Waiting for the barreled action to complete the build.

Shot a Wolf school gun 2 years ago in 6.5 CM. At the time I believe it had well over 3000 rounds through it. We shot Franks dot target and 6 rounds all went into the dots. By day 2 , I was hitting milk jugs at 1000 yds with it.

Well just got back from his place in Somerset, with a 22 creed I built. Though he put it together first and went over everything step by step. Then he had me take it apart and put it back together. I have it in an ACC chassis. Went out to his range with a bucket of ammo he makes for his classes, though this was all Peterson brass that he was not to happy with. According to him the brass volumes were all over the place and the sd’s if I remember were in the 30’s . Anyway he boresighted it at 100 yards and had me shoot 3 shots and going to say an inch and a half group. He had me make adjustments for elevation and windage. The next three shots are the attached picture. The next 6 were a touch bigger but not by much.
After that took it out to 700 yards in 18 mph crosswind. This gun is a hammer and a laser in one. Doing it myself saved me a bunch of cash that I used for a trip to Gettysburg with my wife. At least thats what I told her we were going to PA for.
With the ACE I don’t need to rework loads as the chamber will always be the same. Thinking of an ACE in 6.5 CM, as all I Will need is a new ACE and barrel. as the action and bolt are set up for creedmoor. 1 action two rifles.
Jaimie is a great guy to do business with as well as making rock solid rifles.
