I have been looking for a 10mm and a friend had this one for sale. Its an amazing gun so far and taking it to the range tomorrow. Its in excellent condition. Anyone of you fine folks have this pistol and made any changes such as grips, sights.....etc.....

Recommend the Houge grip. I found the factory ones not good if you hands were wet.

Found this link. Was surprised they still had them for sale.

I also put Trijicon sites on it. Hope you like it. looks to be in great shape. This series are practically indestructible.

Enjoy!

I've actually been trying to sell mine... I just don't get to use it. Got the whole kit below listed on here. Anyway, I'd recommend getting a set of Wolff springs, particularly if you load (and you really wanna be able to use full power 10mm, this thing is a tank and easily the most robust 10mm ever made). Mags are fucking EXPENSIVE. IF you can even find 'em. About ten years ago or so they stopped making 'em but were rare even then. They just keep going up and soon the mags will be worth more than the pistol and holster.

You MIGHT be able to collect mag parts over time on Ebay and eventually put some together. But if I'm not mistaken, one part is always missing? Spare mag shit is a good idea anyway when mags are $140+.

It's fairly accurate and they can be reliable but that's the true reason FBI passed on 'em --they weren't "identical" enough when it came to reliability and/or tolerances? Shoot a lot before carrying. Easily the hardest hitting 10mm because it can handle loads that feel like they're gonna rip a Glock frame in half. The old load data for 10mm's? Compare 25-30 years ago with today. Round hasn't changed but selection of available common pistols has.

So the Trij. sights are a good idea for that pistol, you got the adj. protected sights and that's the "better" of those IMO. The Milt Sparks IWB rig I have is really great and conceals well but it's just a heavy pistol. That rig is nice though, I got three of 'em for three different pistols. If you know what you're doing, you can take it apart and polish all the contact areas around the trigger and trigger bar where wear is apparent. It's about the only thing you can do as far as a trigger job, these things don't have the best triggers exactly. Last thing, these pistols have a mag safety. Disable that fucker and don't look back.

Yeah, I'd probably regret like hell selling it if I ever did. They just keep going up in price too. Doubled in ten years.

And it seems like we may never get back to this kind of quality of mfg. --albeit rough and loose, it's still machined SS throughout. It's also the biggest, most powerful, latest model semi auto all-steel weapon Smith made. 3rd gens were the latest and greatest --then Glock came out and stole their thunder.

Never cared for 1911's... But 1006's? Oh yeah.

Realized that pistol was in the holster... Here 'ya go:

(Notice the prefix on your SN and mine...)

Those things have to have the world's nastiest double action trigger followed by the shortest reset and craziest single action break I've ever seen.

Took it our this morning and ran three mags thru it. Gun is amazing. So lucky to have picked this one up.

def will disable the mag safety. As well as look at the trigger polishing. Thanks for all the info.

Yep, good luck. And only POLISH the areas where there is wear if you do anything at all. No removal of material.

Some are better than others and then with a little work they can be okay --again, reason FBI dropped 'em, inconsistency. For the individual owner this isn't really a problem. But they always leave something to be desired and are never "tight" always "loose" is how I'd describe it. But it gets the job done. It's better than a plastic trigger IMO. And the pistol is one of a kind, it has no peer --plus they just don't make 'em like this anymore. This thing was built to last forever.

Thanks for the guidance on the polishing. I will look at it and if I dont feel comfortable I will leave it be.... I wonder if I can send it to SW Im sure they offer a service.

The grip design of S&W DA/SA semi autos is the absolute worst in history.

I have a 915 and holy hell the ergonomics are absofuckinglutely horrible. It's not like I have nothing to compare since I own or have owned SIG P-series, S&W M&Ps, Glocks, and CZs (75 series, DA/SA P-series, striker P-series)

I beg to differ

Those frames similar to the original Model 39 to me have a great "hand feel".

I only own the little calibers 39-2, 52-2 and 952.

The DA/SA on the 39 is a bit of a mess since all I have been shooting is SAO.

The 52-2 is SAO. Beautiful trigger but designed to be so.

The 952 is so light Ive doubled it when not paying attention and maintaining follow through.

Great guns overshadowed by their better revolvers.

Those are all single stacks. Their double stack 3rd gens are a joke. There's quite a good reason why they disappeared from the market while almost all other DA/SA service pistols remained and even thrived in spite of Glock.

Good point......my little, bitty hands might not be able to wrap those double columnar grips.
