If one wanted to buy a can from a friend is it a normal form4 with 10-12 month wait or something else?

I'm going to say it's the normal wait time. Possession is illegal until you have the stamp.

Assuming you're both residents of the same state, it's just one form 4

Yup. Same state. Was hoping there was a quicker way like E-File. What if its family or a death inheritance?

If the original owner has it on a Trust. He can amend the trust and put you on it.

I bought a can from a friend. It was a standard form 4 transfer, he maintained possession of the can until he received the paperwork back with my stamp. It's a pretty easy process. And when we shot together he brought the suppressor for me to use.
