I'll hit my range after work to verify POI. It's just a little ol' ladies field so I doubt anyone will be there 
I was also shocked saturday when at our range I was told that the range had filled up the guy that runs the place had to start turning people away can't wait to see and meet all the new shooters when they turn up and to drool over all the new gear its always a fun time and to hear all those people shooting . and yea 3,700 rounds through the 6.5 creedmoor barrel and its still going strong thank god .
I went on a Wednesday night and there was an hour wait for the 100yd range, and the pistol ranges were packed. They offered to reserve a lane for me if I wanted to meander through the shop and wait but I just smiled politely and said see ya tomorrow. Fortunately I have a membership and can schedule lane time which they informed me of after the fact but it is what it is.

my new favorite hobby is hanging around the gun store, and listening to all the people coming over the border from MA complain when the clerk wont sell them AR15s and Glocks...
Yessir. I’ve never had to wait for a lane up until that day.
...it's deer season, y'all. Folks are sighting in granpappy's huntin' raafhle and taking 20 rounds to sorta get it because they don't ask for help.
Fuck if that ain’t it too. Lettin er rip with their 300rum on a lead sled, getting the target back with 20 holes in 20 different places and looking at it like “yup this’ll do” and leave. All while at 50 yds. I’m looking forward to hunting season being over.
Then going out and killing a deer with it, and having some precision rifle shooter rake a deers back at 250 YDS, with his rifle he was shooting praise dogs at 800y a couple weeks ago.

I was at an indoor range that caters to pistol shooters, but does have 4 x 50 yard lanes. Not many sighting in their RUMs there, but I was confirming zero on my Grendel for this weekend’s opener. Added a suppressor- 2 moa low relative to unsuppressed. Ballistic calculators make getting a 100 yard zero from a shorter zero and muzzle velocity a snap. This is my 11 yo’s first opportunity for a deer.

Funny... I went yesterday at noon. Nobody there but me and 3 range officers. It was super windy and about 30 degrees. I guess people don't know the 20 foot high concrete wall behind the berm keeps the pistol range pretty free of wind. Would have been a nice time but the range guys all literally stood right behind me out of boredom. Threw off my shooting.
I was an RO on an outdoor range on a Central Texas ranch in the 80', 90's. The range this time of year before deer season was packed with a waiting line. I spent all my time running up and down the 100 meter line answering questions and helping people sight in their guns.
Funnest job ever, good folks and I was glad to help.
I took my newly assembled (thanks Sniper's Hide) Tikka T3X TAC A1 in .260rem (thanks Barry Thomas) topped with an ARC 20MOA mount (thanks wilsoN_) and new Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25X50 EBR-7C (thanks Eurooptic.com) out to the family range yesterday. Never any crowds, just uncles and cousins.
We spent last week setting up steel plates out to 800yards and will be dropping a gew more out to 1200yards next week.
After a few rounds to zero at 100, we banged steel out to 800. I got first round hits all the way out using Streloc Pro with the new Tikka and Hornady 130gr ELD-Match factory ammo. We also got good results from his new Ruger RPR in 6.5 Creedmoor.
Fortunately we will be back out there a couple more times this week.

I worked at a gun range for a while....
60% of gun owners are actively dangerous with a firearm.
35% are safe enough but can't hit the side of a barn from the inside.
5% of gun and owners are actually proficient with a gun.
< 1% are what I would call "good" shooters

Yep. And they scare the everliving shit out of me at the local range. Its like muzzle sweeping is a sport. I feel sorry for the RO’s. They spend most of their time clearing malfunctions and teach manual of arms to noob shooters. I kind wish they would provide a class to all new firearm owners. Shit I’d teach the class on a weekly basis for free just to lower my blood pressure when I walk into the range. I know it’s just ignorance on their part and can be corrected easily. I just wish that people would understand that a mistake with a firearm has consequences. They’re not called negligent discharges for nothing

I’m a club shooter as well, but I’d like to practice at the local range here. But since I moved, these city folks...I just can’t. I’m not able to drive 2 hours each way to shoot an indoor club match during the week like I used to do. Man do I miss that.
I’ve almost been shot on a cold range. Needless to say I got the fuck out of there and never went back. Public ranges are sketch
I'm bummed. I didn't make it today. I decided to get petrol in all my cars instead - never know when you may have to throw in your gear and get the hell out.
Also another gun store in my AO gone...no inventory so they had to close the doors. I did my share there, not as I would have liked; but more than I'd venture a lot of folks. Kinda pissed, I didn't even know they were GOOB when I was last by there. Sold it all at cost. Had 2 nice VP9s and I think some Sigs. I guess between getting fuel to feed guns, and inability to get more common firearms they just couldn't keep paying the bill to have th storefront. But, some bad marketing too. I know they have my email, and instead of letting customers know, they put it on Facebook first. Since I don't facebook much...well, poof...gone.
@308pirate, now that I have a range with 3 pits for pistol, I NEVER shoot with anybody. Just me. If I managed to poke holes in myself, so be it. But I've even had the RSO flag me at this range!!! Came out to check on me and I said..go ahead, take a few shots. He did...gun was clean (mag dropped, slide back) but I still did NOT appreciate being flagged by the RSO. PISTOLS....well..scare me in the hands of others. I'm fine if they're in their holsters. I remember going to a new range in Florida almost 15 years ago. We drove up (guy from work), got out. Said hello to RSO, went to put gear down, kid with 1911 turns around at firing line and says "DAD...what am I supposed to do" and flagged EVERYBODY on the line with a loaded weapon (I think the safety was on due to the question). I didn't even set gear down...I insisted we leave. I also now only wear NEON Yellow, Green or Orange to the range.

I can't be the only guy here who lives in the middle of nowhere just for the range?
10 minutes to 650 yards, 30 minutes to one ranch with steel to a mile. Going to setup steel on my BIL's place, it's 45 minutes away but we end up there often enough for the epic walleye and small-mouth fishing.
We have no range employees. It's the odd day when more than 5 of the 20 benches are being used. Cost is a whole $50/yr because there are no employees, all volunteer labor.

One of my flaggings was at a private range - I won't say by whom, but let's just say...it'd be in his best interest to not take out the patrons. I guess the only public rifle range I'll go to is CMP, but even there you have got to have your wits about you.
Shotgun sports. I saw a video of folks quail hunting at one of those "farm raised" places on their web page. Dude went into cover to stir the birds out in the brush pile. I was like ummm...get a dog - like a Springer (that's what they're for..to spring birds) and people shot over him as they flushed. I was horrified and more so it was on their web page. Man...my dad and grandfather taught me much, much better than that.
As an LEO firearms instructor for many years, I have taught hundreds of trainees that have never even seen a weapon. I have been flagged more times than I can count, had rounds hit the ground at my feet and had trainees drop live weapons on the firing line. Freaks me out every damn time.
I gave up on sporting clays for just that reason. It just doesn't sink in with them.........
