Let's hear it folks, I'd like to jump into a 6mm build. Goal is to keep COAL at or 2.8 or longer. It's a single shot so I suppose i can have some free to seat out the 110-115gr pills. 6CM or even a 6x47 on the list. Berger manual shows max coal at 2.80 for both. Not sure about anything else. Let me know what yall think with specs if you have them.

    Thanks!

The 6mmBR is probably one of the most accurate round out to 500-600 yards in light to maybe moderate winds. Not only is it an amazingly accurate round it is extremely easy to find accurate reloads. I was developing a load for one of mine and varied the powder weight by 1.6 grains oit of a total of 30 grains and fired 27 rounds and only 2 of those rounds were outside a 1 MOA 10 ring at 300 meters as measured by an e-target, that is a very wide sweet spot.

The only drawback for the the 6mmBR and what you want is the 115 grainns which might be a bit hefty for the 6mmBR. I would look at 105-108 grain if you go with 6mmBR, there are far more choices for bullets in the 105-108 grains range than 110-115 grain range, I have great luck with Lapua 108 Scenar L's and some custom bullets.

    Just my 2 cents,

You’re right, glossed over that bit. Probably shouldn’t throw ideas around as I’m falling asleep lol

Happens to me all the time.
I was reading a for sale ad about a Bushy scope and asked the OP what power range it had.
Two minutes later I pick up my phone to continue reading and it's staring me in the face. Sent him a "nevermind, I found it" reply...

To shine a bit more light on my thoughts behind the build is really to have something different and fun to shoot. My general shooting is at steel out to 1k,. Done it with 308, 6.5CM. Now due to the current shortage i would also like to try to stick with a small rifle primer cartridge as I'm stocked up on these right now (when will that madness end?? 😫) I also thought the heavy pills would be great if I can have the barrel freebored to allow me to seat them out a bit longer since I'm going to single load anyways.
Thanks for the current suggestions also, I've had my nose in a few manuals trying to get ideas.

Perhaps look into just using small rifle primer brass for your 6.5 CM? Should solve your issue much cheaper than setting up for a new cartridge.

Now it's a different story if you just want something new...

I did a dasher build recently. There are some draw backs but great caliber. I had a lot of inconsistency trying to load to oal. For the first time I started using a ogive measuring tool and had great results. I load from a mdt br magazine and a regular pmag acis type mag and both load without issue. My rounds ended up shorter than the 2.8 though.

    308 bolt face?

Why the desire for single shot, is it a single shot action or do you think loading bullets long will net you significant velocity vs a mag fed length?

I’d say if you really want 6mm SRP, go 6 Creed and shoot 110 A-Tips with a 0.150” freebore. Could probably still mag feed them.

If you want a better long range caliber for “ELR-ish” shooting (which is kinda what you’d be doing with a single shot), why not try some of the brand new Lapua 284 Win brass and shoot some really high BC bullets really far?

I have the m24 style setup on a rem 700 long action but I feed 308 through a mag no problem if I needed to. I don't usually have to load the magazine because where I shoot in private property we usually only load 1 round, shoot, extract and put the spent case back in the box how we normally do. It's not a run- and- gun set up but that's what my gas guns are for ;). Yes I understand get a short action and go that route but I don't feel like doing a new build. and I already have a 6mm barrel sitting in the safe. I figured take off that 308 barrel and try something new.

I went 6 bra, still at the smith, but apparently it will fireform 6br loads accurately and get more velocity when reloaded. I have run the 6xc and 6cm with 115 dtacs and 105 bergers. Not much of a difference in those rifles.
