I just want to say how cool I think it is that someone can come on here and say "I don't know how to take my stock off and I don't know how to zero my scope" and instead of getting shit on they actually get helpful advice. Good on you guys.
Hey Bigbrain, rezeroing your scope may be intimidating, but it's not hard. You got this. Spin those dials like you're on Wheel of Fortune! Actually no, don't do that, just do a few clicks at a time and slowly walk your Point of Impact (POI) to your Point of Aim (POA). If you're hitting low and left, give it a few clicks up and a few clicks right, nothing more complicated than that. The top dial/turret on your scope will be mark with a "U" for up and the one on the side will be marked with an "R" for right, there maybe caps you need to unscrew to see this.
Easy peasy once you get the hang of it. You'll want to do this every time you switch ammo or make a major adjustment to your rifle setup.
For your new chassis project:
1) Leave the scope on the action
2) Undo the action screws (one behind the trigger guard, one in front of the magazine floor plate)
3) Pull the barreled action out of the old stock
4) Put the barreled action in your new chassis
5) Tighten actions screws (use a torque wrench if you have one or just snug them up if you don't. Nice and snug, but don't over do it! Loose action screws are easier to fix than stripped action screws)
6) Shoot 3 shot groups at 100 yards using some sort of support (e.g., bench, sled, sandbags, backpack, bipod, whatever you have).
7) Walk POI to POA by adjusting your scope dials
8) Done (pat yourself on the back)
