How much should I pay?

I am looking at this rifle from a private seller and trying to find out what a fair price would be. It is chambered in 6.5 creedmoor with mostly Aero Precision parts. The barrel is 22in SS fluted with Atlas S One handguard. The scope on it is a pretty basic Nikon.

It was build less than a year ago. I’ve fired it several times. It’s accurate and cycles without any issues.

The Nikon will break on an AR-10. They’re discontinuing or have already discontinued production of rifle scopes.

Barrel manufacturer is the biggest variable in this equation.

If it’s a garbage company, I wouldn’t really mess with the rifle.

If it’s a Bartlein, Criterion, Hart, Krieger, Lilja, Mike Rock, Noveske, Obermeyer, PacNor, Satern, Schneider, or Shilen, it will command more value than one of the rack-grade or tent stake grade barrels that currently flood the market.

It also matters who chambered, profiled, and did the extension work. A lot of shops can take a world-class barrel and turn it into a turd just by working on it.

The rest looks like pretty quality components at a glance. Probably tell him to just keep the scope because you will most likely end up replacing it anyways. If you have shot the rifle and are comfortable with how it functions and shoots, then just add up the component prices and start there.

About$600 max, who knows who assembled it, if it was built correctly. Better to start with a clean slate unless you can steal it.

You are getting a used PRS , Used Reciever Set, Used who knows what BCG, low value rail/barrel and questionable LPK.

Scope and mount are low grade paperweights, throw both in trash.

An unknown home build with an unknown round count. I can build a rifle that doesn’t shoot, in my garage. I don’t need to buy someone else’s rifle that won’t shoot.

the parts alone on that, sans the barrel, are 900 in this market. Hell, it's almost all AP and people are asking less than a $hitty psa gen 2 or 3. it's absurd

agree here but would like to know the barrel. Not to mention, he could sell the scope for at least 100 so it's really 900. Don't forget, he's shot it as well and comfortable with performance. I think 1k is pretty fair here

This happens to be local to me. I don't know what barrel was used, or the trigger, though the trigger kind of looks like a Rise trigged bow. Even if not, it is a flat bow, so it is not a mil spec trigger. Barrel listed here is a Criterion. At least with real prices we can have a real discussion. I still say used parts with unknown round count, discount at least 30%.

Half these cats wouldn't build low grade bottom barrel guns when for a little more you can build something that has a much higher probability of not only shooting much more accurate, but more reliable and durable as well.

Quality parts retain their value, sometimes going up in value.

Buying all the cheapest stuff you can find to slap together, not so much.

The Stock is the only thing on that gun worth buying.

What the uninformed public and a Competent & Experienced Shooter/Builder would do is not the same thing.

Just because someone know knows LESS than nothing about firearms is going to pay X price, doesn't mean you should.

Knowledge is power and knowing when something is a good value is part of that.

This is not a good value, unless you get it for around $600, hence the original post. Let the idiots overpay for subpar crap.

If it didn't come as-is out of a factory (with that factory's warrantee), or got built up in my own shop, I'd stay away.

The market right now is standing on its head. People are pulling prices out of their butts, and unskilled buyers (within whom I include myself) really haven't a clue what a thing's worth.

I'm neither buying nor selling until the crystal ball clears back up.
