He gets his day in court, as he should. I disagree with the internet hero following.
^ yeah. in court. in the “just-us” system. he should have never been fucking charged. and meanwhile, the felon in possession of a firearm, the one that tried to execute Kyle, walks free.

if there is one thing i’ve learned in the last 4 years....it’s that everything we’ve been told about our justice system is a lie and should not be trusted. if you want true justice, you either have to get it yourself or wait for God to handle it.

This year and many other instances (think Flynn) has proven that the courts are corrupt
None of the people that attacked him were charged.
In multiple videos he’s seen being civil and even putting out a fire.
In multiple videos you see him being attacked and in none of the do you see him assaulting others, only self defense.
Considering he did more than any of us myself included ashamed to say he deserves every bit of hero following as you say, if a hero is someone that stands up at risk to himself for others he doesn’t even know he fits the bill.
Yea he should have just left himself be killed in the street by the mob for trying to put out a dumpster fire.

The website clears up many of the misconceptions that the media (purposefully) has made about him. I think the "hero following" doesn't come from the fact that he did ice two losers, but more from the idea that he defended himself and was quickly turned into the bad guy in the situation and a lot of people can see themselves in his shoes.

I have not read that he is a hero, just that self defence does not make a murderer of you.
This. The hero complex is coming from not necessarily from what he did, but from the fact he has be vilified for what was clearly a legal act of self defense.
kid has done more net good in his life than many of the "heroes" we have running around wearing a badge.
if cops, nurses, and teachers can be lauded has "heroes".....surely taking out a few felons and pedos earn you that title.

I don't care what side of the fence people are on about Kyle, the fact is what he did does NOT fit the true definition of a hero. What Kyle did was SELF-defense. A true hero thinks not about themSELF.
So you think he was only thinking of himself, when he was cleaning graffiti earlier that day and rendering first aid right before the shootings, to the very folks who tried to kill him ??

We are talking about what landed him in trouble. And yes, he was thinking about his own life when he defended himself. If any one of us was in that same situation, we would be thinking about our own lives because those would have been the only lives that were in danger. I think some of you need a refresher course in what self-defense means. This is EXACTLY what I mean when I have said in the past that fanboys ruin EVERYTHING. The shootings were self-defense and not heroism. Hate me all you want, but the evidence in right on film.
Ok so the reason why he was at the location and what his intentions where, have no bearing.
If a firefighter runs into a burning building to save a baby, and the suicidal arsonist tries to kill him - but he kills that guy instead, thats all just self preservation. The intent of why he was in that location at that time, is simply irrelevant.
Nope. In order to be a hero you have to have died or put your life on the line to save others. Kyle's location and intentions mean nothing because he is not by definition a hero. It was self-defense and not heroism. When he dives in front of a speeding bus to save an old lady or runs into a burning building to save a baby, then I will be first in line to call him a hero.
Look, I get you're a Kyle fanboy and are biased for him, but let's look at the bigger picture here. Is this site a pro-military site or not? That said, do you think it's okay for the title of hero to be thrown around like a simple participation trophy or do you think the title of hero should be an honorable title that is earned?

Back it up. The reason he was there in the first place is because he joined an ad hoc group whose goal was the protection of public and private property, and providing first aid to anyone injured.
Kyle had a first aid kit. He was interviewed prior to the shooting and clearly stated his purpose. The thugs attacked him in response to his action of putting out a fire.
So I'm not labeling him a hero, but he could have a beer with one comfortably.
People need to understand that words are sometimes used in the vernacular. Also that some words are “objective” and some are “subjective”.
In the vernacular, the use of “hero” as a noun is perfectly within the bounds of common usage. Still it is not the word that I have used to describe Kyle.
One of the things that gets me is that folks who demand strict adherence to a “dictionary definition” can’t be bothered to pick one up. Instead they insist it is their “objective” definition that is the only one acceptable.
First I went to my 1946 copy of Merriam Webster dictionary to find the definition of hero. My thinking was this would be a more strict definition. Results below:

Both examples clearly have multiple differing definitions.
Then, I went back in this thread to see where the term had been used first and it was someone using the term “hero worship”.
I am not sure what rises to hero worship in Kyles case, but I don’t see that in this thread. I do think Kyle has become someone of a “cult hero” to us 2Aers. If that was the intend meaning of hero worship, yes that has happened. Certainly Kyle is not “worshipped” as say one would worship God.
The use of the term “cult hero” is certainly used in the vernacular and the word hero within that context could easily fit both example definitions that I have provided.
