i have been thinking about putting different barrel on my savage 110 long range hunter its 300wm im thinking something a little heavier current seems a little thinner thanks

Looks like you will need a large shank barrel and the special wrench to remove that smooth barrel nut. Or just take a pipe wrench to it and replace it with something easier to work on. Tons of options out there to upgrade it....that is the beauty of the barrel nut system.

It can be done, its not all that difficult, and a good barrel on a Savage can be a real shooter. When I first got into this I started with a Savage in 308, after getting whooped by all my friends shooting .243's, 260's, and Creeds I bought a Criterion barrel in 6.5 Creed. It was a great shooter. I eventually bought an Origin action and moved the barrel to it, but I still keep the Savage around in 308 for fun.

If you like the rifle, and do not want to sink the money into a custom action I would say go for it. There are plenty of options out there for you.

Does the Long Range Hunter use a large shank? I have a 110BA (from 300 win mag) action and it's a standard shank.
