As for atmosphere, yes, I have breathed some foul shyte in the process of mapping caves.
It's hard to decide which is worse, the struggle to work in the CO2 or the screwdriver through the brain when you come out.
One university group I guided had a guy who had even been underground, let alone in bad air, poor bugger actually became panicky and pissed himself before we could get him up.
