So buddy reached out to me yesterday asking whether an M24 barreled action he’s actually worth $3000 if it’s new in the box.

I told him that I knew they went for around $2000 brand new, but then I really had no idea what they’re actually worth.

So here’s the question: what makes an M 24 action worth anything?

You beat me to it. It is still a $300 700 barreled action.

About 2016 or so I was in a gun shop in California picking up a rifle, and another guy was in there doing the same. He had paid $9500 for a Remington Prototype sniper rifle that was based on a 700 (the context of what the prototype was for escapes me now).

It was a nice rifle, but it was still a 700. Everytime I said it was a 700, he would say "yeah but it's a &^%$^%&* Model ". I have been the owner of hundreds of 700's so I know for sure it wasn't a Remington PSR.

He had a letter from Remington claiming that it had been part of some fielding test. I don't remember any more details.

Just shocked me that he would step up to the penis grinder that far for a 700.

I've got several TRG-42s and a TRG-22... NONE of them that anything like that kinda of expensive ($9k).

Since KRG started with all of their TRG stuff, I've been in heaven. (TRG accessories are pricey, to be honest.)

...but we're talking $2400 for a complete rifle. Still more expensive than your everyday 700, but not crazy for a precision rifle.

I was just shocked at the $3000 for a barreled action.

    Ok, thanks folks!

    XM3 or M2010 Prototypes?

The XM3's a DARPA program and were used in combat so there is some real value there.

I am no expert and don't claim to be.

I had to do some digging but I went back and found where Drake Associates had the barreled actions for a bit. I distinctly remember them being BNIB XM2010 M24 Barreled actions for $3000 and they offered full setups with chassis as well. The $3k was barreled action only and I remember seeing them in stock when that post was made by them on their blog.

Someone willing to pay more for it due to emotion. To me its no different from any other 300 dollar remington.

Pretty much how I see it although it has had a little more work. No way in hell I would pay $3000 for one though. I can build a full custom rifle for less than that.

I almost caved to $2500 for a FA762SS and two brakes :( seeking an XM3 clone. To which the other half of me realized i can build a rifle for that. Am about to drop a little more coin on a worked over 700 than i would like but i honestly kind of miss my 700 5R and just miss having a stupid simple 308. So here we go 😁

People interested in clone correct builds (including myself) will likely take interest. Never hurts to list optimistically.

I saw the $2,100 (sans scope) for an M24R as a bargain a few years ago since everything but the barreled action was taken off of a rifle that had usually been in theatre.

The BA in question is still just a Remington 700 action, and Remington barrel at the core. It would take a hell of a fanboy to justify $3K for one ...since the only real difference is "M24" stamped on the receiver.

Wasn't Euro Optic selling NIB M24s recently for just under $3K?...and they weren't moving fast either.

The military type items bring a lot of money. Look at M-40's, A1 return stocks, 40X bases, USMC Unertls, USMC Redfields etc. You can ignore it or deride it. The guys who wisely invest in those items will reap financial rewards. I have no idea if this BA is a wise investment.

They still are. The ad banner is at the top of the page for me right now. I'd buy one if they were under $2k.

I would love to build a M24a2 but I'm not interested in paying more than a $2-300 premium for the action when they pop up occasionally.
