223 TMK jammed into lands on new barrel. Too much?

finally got my proof pre fit barrel in for my 223 rifle. I had ordered handloads prior to the barrel and sent a dummy round to the barrel maker, and they didn’t team it to the length I needed. OAL is 2.420” with a 77gr TMK. Got the barrel onto the action and when chambering a round it jams the bullet into the lands. Is this something you wouldn’t run? I now load 223 and can seat the bullets deeper if need be

If they are a near max charge, jammed into the lands like that, you may be asking for trouble

What bullet? — what and how much powder? — What primer?

Varget but not sure the charge weight. I can pull a bullet to weigh the charge.

Thinking of measuring COAL with a fired case and bullet and then seating .020 off the lands. Thoughts on that?

Really need to know what the powder charge is — if you just seat deeper you can create an overpressure issue there too

Seating deeper pushes the long 77 grn smk into the case, taking up space, powder now has a smaller space which creates more pressure — once again, really should start low and work up with powder

I don’t use varget so I do not know its characteristics

I’d pull a bullet or 3 and see where you are with powder and make a decision from there — hopefully someone who is familiar with varget will come along to interject some real world info

Just measured with a fired case and bullet, and to the lands is 2.345” COAL

After getting the run around for 6mos, being told it was an in stock blank and it would be done in 6 weeks, and every week after that, there’s no way I’d send it back to them
