AI AX question

Place I know has a AI AX for sale. It comes with 2 barrels a Bartlien .260 and the factory .260. Its green chassis with dickmod on it.

Are all of these switch barrels like the newer MC?

They want $4200 for it, but I have no desire to shoot .260 anymore so will need a new barrel.

Is is a post 2014? If so, it uses the quick lock system and 30 sec barrel changes. If it’s a pre-2014, then no quick change. The stock is the quickest way to tell at a glance (also look for the quick lock Allen head fastener) but the serial number is the most reliable way. Look for the two-digit year code

It sounds to like it is the non-switch barrel AX. I have one and barrel changes are easy to make. If you want a switch barrel AI in that price range look at the AI-AT

Thanks. Even if its not quick change, can it still accept pre-fits with a vise and action wrench? Are the actions bonded to the chassis as well?

Barrel changes on the AX are really easy just need an action wrench a barrel vise. I use the Viper Barrel Vise when change barrels on mine. I would be happy to walk you though the change prosses if you decide to get the AX.
Yes pre-fit barrels will work.

I had a 2012 AX non-quick change and it was a fantastic gun, you simply need an action wrench for it and you can swap barrels in a few minutes. Of course it's not as effortless as the 2014+ with the Quick-lock system but it still gets it done and allows you to have a multi-cal rifle with very little effort. I personally don't think that price is all that great but if you can pull $600-800+ out of the two barrels then it'll make it more reasonable but you'll still need a new barrel in your caliber of choice, that said, I'd still push for a lower price.

Like @GIXXER2000 said, for the money you'll have tied up in it I'd likely go for a new AT for similar money because the only thing you're gaining with that particular AX is the free floating wiener rail and side mag cutout, those older ones had the same club foot stocks that the AT comes with standard. My suggestion, pick up a new AT in the caliber and color you desire and it'll have the SFP and the Quick-lock barrel system, that's what I'd do.

My old one, it was a shooter for sure.

Just wait and buy a post 14 AX off here for 5500. You’ll be ahead. Or if you like the AT look, get one of them with the quick change barrel for the same price as the pre 14 ax

If you want a switch barrel system, No Legs has his AX for sale at 4550 shipped without a barrel. Snag a new barrel for $450-1100, depending on what you want, and you’re good. So you’re looking at just around $5k for an AX setup.

Or you can do the above and buy a brand new AT with the caliber you want for $4k.

Your problem is that you aren't identifying as someone who needs a new rifle. This is extremely close-minded and you should reconsider your stance. We are a community of open-mindedness that supports everyone on their quest for the next new rifle.

But yea, as a non-quick change system, it isn't competitive at that price when you can buy a new AT for less or a used (post-14) AX for just around the same. Maybe you can use that to get him to drop his price a bit? With the new AT-X about to drop, it is going to be a buyer's market on used AT's and AXSA's.

I forgot it was in the PX though that’s a killer deal. Especially when gently used barrels are everywhere for relatively cheap
