Sandman S endcap strike

Did the guy that threaded my barrel screw up? I have a couple thousand rounds through this can on my AR and several hundred through my 300 WinMag with no issues.


I had my Tikka T3x Varmint threaded and the Dead Air brake timed. I shot about 100 rounds through it with the .30 cal end cap with no issues. As soon as I put on the 5.55 endcap the round hit the it and blew a chunk out.

I had the alignment checked with a rod and it seemed fine. A different gunsmith is having a master machinist check the alignment more thoroughly.


The can was on completely and the brake wasn't loose. Does this guy owe me a new endcap and my money back, or should I count this as shit happens sometimes?

Was the round stabilized with the twist of the rifle. Also I had a rifle that got a chunk of carbon to interfere with the lockup. It seemed tight and seated until it broke free after my first shot then sloppy and could have easily resulted in a baffle strike.

If I'm not mistaken as long as the index tab on the Sandman is against the other tab it is completely on? I think carbon interfering would stop it from turning all the way.

I'm not sure on the sandman lockup, just a observation from another platform.

Well I guess I'm SOL regardless. The gunsmith who did it is out of business. Can't imagine why......

Dude you have no idea. I've had more issues with guns than I haven't.


Trijicon ACOG-Prism came loose on a hunt (Granted I was using a SCAR 17)

Elcan- Did not work immediately from factory (electronics were somehow loose) 2nd one was sent out and still had issues so I had them just refund my money.

PMM Rail- Pic rail out of spec and ended up with stripped screws that had to be drilled out

PVS 14 White phos from TNVC- Defective ring that wouldn't allow it to focus to infinity

Archery sight- Cheap pins presumably got hot on a hunt, then bent, and caused me to miss a bull

And there are more.... If there's a 1 in 1,000,000 lemon I will be the one to get it.


I think I should probably just sell my shit and pick up golfing. Or buy a lotto ticket.

After nearly 3 years of trying to get into long range shooting I finally have a rock solid set up. ZCO, Bergara in 300WinMag, peripheral equipment...and now reloading bullets are non existent so It's pretty much just a paperweight. Hahaha this is great.
