Hello All,

I will be going to an ELR course this August which has the ability to shoot out to 2600 metres.

A bit of background my current farthest shooting was out to 600 metres.

I Will be using a DTA SRSA2 with a .338 lapua conversion kit (26" barrel).

My plan was to use Lapua 300 grain OTM factory match ammunition.

I believe the DTA SRSA2 does now have a cant in the Picatinny rail.

My original plan was to use my Vortex Razor AMG in 20 MOA Spuhr mount, but after looking at the range of travel, believe I will need a lot more travel than only 20 MOA.

I was considering getting a ZCO 527 with the Spuhr 60 MOA mount, but was disappointed in the Spuhr mount not having the bubble level.

Do you have any recommendations on either a different mounting option for either the razor AMG or ZCO and how much travel would be required to reach out to 2600 metres and hopefully be able to zero as close to 100 as possible.

Probably going to need at least 45 mils of elevation.
You could look at an adjustable mount like an era-tac, a prism like the nightforce or a periscope like the Charlie tarac
I use a Charlie tarac, my scope has about (running a 45moa rail) 36 mils with the reticle and the Charlie tarac adds another 35 mils.
Both of those gets me to a bit past two miles without having to Change settings on the Charlie tarac.

The ZCO 5-27 is a fine choice. The Spuhr mount is a fine choice....not getting a $400 mount because it doesn't have a nice $5 level is a bit silly to me.

For ballistics...there are a lot of things you gotta fill in the blank....temp/altitude/so on....so you probably already have a ballistics calc on your phone...the Berger 338 with 300gr OTM has a muzzle velocity in a 26" barrel at an estimated 2725fps and a G7 of 0.421.

Hi b2lee,

Not a full deal breaker, but seemed weird that Spuhr mount didn't have an internal level.

I was looking into the ERA-TAC adjustable inclination mount for my current Razor AMG in the hopes that it would help me reach out to 2600 metres.

Currently running applied ballistics on my phone and not able to fully check the velocity and rifle zero, until I get the conversion kit in the mail.

Currently going to shoot the lapua factory ammo in 300 grain as would not want to o make a reloading mistake and then ruin my course/trip.

Hi Steelhead,

I did not know about the prism, but it is quite expensive like the Charlie Tarac.

I was considering the ERA-TAC as my current favourite, but don't have much knowledge of their product.

Plenty of videos and forum talk about the era tac
Been slowly going through the threads and seems like a good call.

Now the next question I had was is anyone using the angle cosine indicator and would they recommend it?

I use the angle function in my laser rangefinder.

You can buy factory ammo from Berger with the 300 grain OTM. In my 338LM, it has lower ES and SD than the factory Lapua 300 grain Scenar and the ballistic coefficient difference is very beneficial beyond ~1 mile. The Berger factory ammo also costs ~30% less than Lapua.

Good to know.
all joking aside call and ask the company/instructor.

theyve seen your exact set up 100 times, they will have a nice list of do's and dont's

not gospel, but better than getting advise on a gun board lol

I have the adjustable ERA TAC and it works well. If you plan on shooting 2600 the NightForce 30 mil prism will get you there.
