My wife’s work is trying to hire a position and is having a heck of a time getting good applicants. They have tried LinkedIn, indeed, Facebook and local papers. Is there someplace that the younger generation is looking for jobs other than those listed?

Indeed always has tons of listings. The problem you are more than likely running into, is that kids now days don’t know how to taylor a resume. They have a one and done mentality with it. Maybe tweak the key words so a few more applications make it past the initial screen and then weed through that. More work on your end, but maybe get a few more hits.

Why work when unemployment and stimulus money pay you 55k a year, that's about a 70K a year job for a normal person.
Good luck, I can't find anyone to work!!!!

Indeed has been the best for us out of those options and word of mouth

the other problem is, because i went through this a few years ago.....most companies wont bother to even reply back to you.....they wont acknowledge they got your application, they wont tell you they arent interested, and even after you interview, most wont even call you to tell you that you didnt get the job.......they cant be bothered.

so why should anyone bother tailoring a resume, when there is a 90% chance the company isnt even going to spend the effort getting back to you?.....honestly its kind of defeating.....

the other thing that drives me nuts is companies interviewing for jobs when they already have an internal candidate in mind.....but they have to interview someone because of HR regs......why waste everyones time?

and im already on a roll so im going to continue.....Companies being deceptive in their job postings.

i interviewed for an engineering position at a company that makes thermocouples.....i sent then my resume, cover sheet, and salary requirements.

went to interview, they said "we have all new hires on a 90day probation, after 90 days you will then be elegeble for insurance and benefits"......3 fucking months without benfits......fuck that.....but i continued because i was already there....

they then went on to say "we like to start all of our engineers out in assembly for a while to learn the products".....ok thats fair.....i asked how long they typically do assembly for......"about 6 years or so"....6 fucking years doing assembly!....thats an assembly job, not an engineering job.....

they then hit me with "well how strict are you on your salary requirements?".........i told them i was flexible but wanted to stay within $5-10K.......they hit me with a number that was $30K per year LESS than what i asked for.....thats some damn extreme "flexibility".......now they knew my salary requirements up front, so why call me in for an interview?.....other than to waste both our times......which is exactly what i told them before i got up and walked out.

you have a lot of companies failing to treat prospective employees with any level of respect.....which really only requires them to be honest and reply to emails........so its no wonder people dont really put in a whole fuck ton of effort.

[end rant]

Companies are going to hire the cheapest least experienced help they can find so thier dumb ass boss can continue to look good since no one under them knows enough to tell upper management that thier supervisor is dummer than a box of rocks.

How to get a job these days.
Don't list much for an education.
Don't list much for experience.
Pretend to be a half wit sheep.
Tell them you voted Democrat.
Tell them guns scare you.

That's what the people doing the hiring want.

Honestly you would be better off with a couple of convictions on you're resume so you could never advance in the company.

I ALWAYS got the best employees from the great folks I already have....Try an incentive for the current employees, see if they know someone who wants to "upgrade" their employment status. Good folks tend to know and hang with other good folks.

I didn't ask, but thanks for the info. My wife's entire department is probably getting the axe tomorrow morning.

Anyone need remote help in medical coding, billing or records?

I can't hire anyone these days. No matter the pay. I own grain elevators, cotton gin, trucking company and farm and can't get any locals. All my guys are H2A.

ziprecruiter and indeed have always landed me a job the same day, I think having qualifications, experience, and a well written resume are the biggest factors.

All of this, then add how many woke HR departments are looking for diversity as their primary consideration in whether to move an applicant along in the process. One hiring manager said that while 80% of the people in the field he was trying to hire from are caucasian males, he had received exactly zero caucasian males screened through HR. And a lot of the applicants pushed through by HR were marginally or not qualified and experienced.

Don't get me started on applicant age. None ask how old you are but all ask when you graduated.

Starting to wonder if this should be moved to the PX.

Joking aside, I'll second the prior recommendations on here.
Indeed, LinkedIn, personal recommendations and a job opening board on the company's website.

I will add that I am not above picking up the phone and calling candidates myself to see if they or someone they knew were interested.

I need to talk with you. My wife's been looking since January 1. She's either over-qualified and they're afraid she'll leave or she makes the final round and the company fills the position with a current employee.

Depending on the nature of the job, the state unemployment system. If more technical, maybe a community college and if that fails, keep moving internal employees around until you can find someone from the outside that can fill a less technical position.

Good luck, it's not going to be easy for a little while. MD has done away with the Fed's extra money, so I'm expecting a lot of the lower paying jobs to be filled soon.

The ones I used to look for jobs were State employment sites, USA Jobs for fed, Indeed, Monster, linkedin.

As mentioned zip recruiter and indeed though I am not a fan of either.

Best jobs by far have come from referrals.

you are spot on

I'll find it incredulous that they'd interview you and then never communicate with you after that. I mean nothing, not a email saying thanks but no thanks, nothing! This is so common it's uncommon to get anything back if no longer considered

that’s only in a liberal area, most of the country the gov “pays” chump change

Well when your pay, sched, and atmosphere sucks, it can be hard to find good help.
Yes and no. My pay has gone up 3-10 bucks an hour, hours are great!
I have friends and family in Utah that can't even open all the way because lack of labor..

Seven years ago I moved to NC with no job lined up without ever having set foot in the state. I didn't know anyone here either.

I'm an accountant, so I started dropping by the firms in my area with donuts and made it a point to start a brief conversation about recent changes to the NC tax code. I had a good job within two weeks. Not sure how much luck was involved, but it worked for me.

Now I'm self employed, I need at least one more employee and I wish someone would do the same. Hiring through the internet really is like online dating. A lot of these resumes look like 10's and when you meet the candidate in person they're usually a 3 at best.

Six to eight cold ones might make a 3 work in the dating game, but it doesn't make a job candidate any better. IMO, in person is the way to go if you can swing it.

What is their pay and sched and what are the comps?

Only places around me that I see high turnover, had high turnover before the wuhan flu

Usajobs for me.

My area has the fed gov as a massive employer. Even though I have a good fed job, I am always looking for the next best thing. Only need a few more years to secure my fed 20yr retirement.

I am barely able to hire anyone, at any level. I’m in kali though so there’s that. Ag manufacturing, with very competitive wages and benefits. Had 8 confirmed interviews off of indeed that no showed in one day. Got a couple keepers off of there eventually. This last year +, has been an absolute bitch. Word of mouth usually works the best. As others have said, good people only vouch for good prospective employees and also employers.

I run nursing homes. So pay scale runs all over... if you really want to know. CNA=16-19 an hour
LVN= 26-34 an hour
RN= 36-48 an hour.
That's just nursing staff, typical 8hr Healthcare shifts AM, PM, Noc. So anyways can't get labor. Covid scared them all away.

Word of mouth. Knowing people in your industry goes a long way towards skipping the HR bullshit. I had to do an interview as a formality, but was essentially hired in my bosses mind before then. Strictly due to the recommendations of former coworkers who also work there now.

dice.com used to be pretty good, but it was for more techical jobs basically.

For the first time in 20 years, I'm looking to change jobs as my current company is going downhill fast... Please are quiting much faster than they can hire. Recruiting firm actually contacted me by matching my linked-in profile to the job, so lucky timing. I've done a screening and 4 interviews.. now, they just told me they want another interview :(

Side note, my coworker was screening a new potential hire and had her share her screen on webex for some reason or another... and noticed she had a small real-time transcript box. Somebody was listening in all the call and dictating the answers in real-time.. she was reading off of the speach-to-text window... he actually saw her responses before she read them out loud! So much fraud/cheating on interviews... job history, qualifications. Previously, they used to just have somebody else do the actual interview. wtf.

As a young person, I’d say skip 85% of my generation. Most are a bunch of coddled bitches that think somebody/ the world owes them something. Im self employed and do construction, I have “friends” with no jobs, that live with mom and dad and they still borrow their car. I’ve offered them work on several occasions. $150 a day cash to come load a dumpster or wheel and spread stone and I buy lunch. Nobody wants to work. Now granted $150 a day isn’t a lot of money, but this is extremely unskilled labor.

Nothing really from locals. Show up work enough for walking around money and don't show up again. They show back up a week or so later expecting their job still. It's hard to build a business that way. I pay well. These guys aren't cheap to bring over and with taxes and all.... But you get good skilled labor, who want to work and aren't on drugs.

What do your directors of rehab make? Wife is in talks to take a DOR job, she is a PTA now.
I know pay depends on location but I’m just curious

i dunno man, assuming you are working 5 days a week, thats $3K a month (untaxed?) to spread stone....with lunch provided.....hell, thats not a bad deal.....god knows ive done more work for less pay than that before.

hell, you go work a min. wage job, and work 8 hrs a day, you are making $64-120 a day.

But how does that compare to the competition and what’s your difficulty level finding people.

Not saying it’s you, I have seen people blame EVERYTHING on Covid, any failure in their business, even if it sucked before the bat cough, something are the governments fault with their illegals actions as of recent, but others failures have jack to do with the events of the last year.

Places that had decent pay, and a good work atmosphere and schedule, at least in my area, seem to be doing just fine when it comes to staffing.

Maybe she could learn to speak broken, proper English like her replacement team because I will bet that's what's up.

Someone is getting paid to cut labor costs. The fact that it may cripple the company is of little concern to them they will just blame the incompetence on the staff they hired.

Welcome to the machine.

Most my DOR's make salary of 120-140K with bonus plans based on productivity and cost per minute. Haven't seen too many PTA's be DOR's

Great question.
Competition is worse off! There was a shortage of CNA's. When Covid struck everyone got scared and thought they would die working at a Skilled Nursing facility... so now there's a shortage of staff overall.
Then Registry companies popped up like a bad case of Herpes. They say I'll pay you 10 bucks more and hour, then SNF's call desperate and pay 35 bucks an hour more so the registries are all making 25 bucks an hour doing staffing.
We have PPD Nursing levels to maintain. Staff to patient ratios, 10K fines per day if we are under. Etc.

It's like signing up for the military and then quitting as soon as we go to war. Same thing the nurses did.
