So she turns away from the flag when the anthem is played, but she also wants to represent the country that gave her the opportunity to excel in her chosen sport at the Olympics?

This kind of thing pisses me off even more than the professional players doing it. They are a bunch of prima donnas in it for the money.

An Olympic athlete in the purest form is an amateur looking to do the best for themselves AND their country.

I just don't understand the logic?

You can disagree with your country, but respect it.

She is free to go to another country where I suspect she would be using that hammer for entirely different purposes.

If she doesn’t want to represent the US, shit no one forced that ugly woman to be there, heck I think you can even renounce your citizenship for free, she should get on it.

I hate my government, most all of it from the fed to most small town city hall types, it attracts a shit demographic it seems.

That said I love my country, and all that flag stands for is, more or less, a shared idea which is the bill of rights, the tool this nation was carved with.

She should go try to do whatever it is she does for china in trade for citizenship, oh wait, china ain’t down with non chinese becoming citizens, lest we even get to their opinion on black people.

Maybe Jamaica, I hear it’s...well the rum is good lol

I think that often, those who do this kind of thing, have poor self esteem, even self loathing, but its hard to live and consciously hate yourself, so they project it out on to the world around you.

Well look at how those that follow this path have been rewarded. All a third rate athlete or celebrity has to do is say they were oppressed and sponsorships come out of the wood work. I'm amazed it isn't every athlete that tries to pull this crap.

These spoiled kids probably never worked a real day in thier life. They think they are making a grand statement against white rage and institutional racism. They are ignorant. Sure, they may get 15min of attention and possibly a sponsorship. Those will run dry when corporate America realizes they are alienating most of thier customer base.

ah yes, America, the country so Raaaaaaayyycist we elected a black man 2x......we have more than 1/2 the worlds black BILLIONAIRES....and we allow you to represent our country no matter what your skin color, and at the same time, let you disrespect that same country that gave you that opportunity without punishment.

try that shit in China, try that shit in Iran, fuck try that shit in any of the shithole African countries with 0 white people in them......youll be jailed or worse.

There's a history of this sort of behavior. The objective is to "bring attention" to themselves, either good or bad.

Who remembers the 1972 Munich Olympics and the Vince Mathews/Wayne Collett duo? They came in 1st and 2nd respectively in one particular track event and, while the National Anthem was played, they spent their time not "at attention" and facing the flag but talking/gesticulating to each other (Collett had climbed up to the 1st place spot and was facing Mathews as they chatted).. Once it was over they left the platform and I think Vince had taken his medal off and began swinging it around as he walked away.

I saw it live. It was disgusting.... I knew that, even as a kid.

In China the athletes better make sure they look at the flag with respect while the anthem is played or they get to join the Uyghurs in the "reeducation camps"....

Sometimes as much as I hate Communists, you have to admire their resolve to not let whiny, spoiled brats dictate what the country will do.
In this country we pander to whiny obsessed wealthy types and spoiled "celebrates".

In China, you can be the richest man around, you step out of line and you suddenly vanish from view.
You might be one of the most popular movie stars, don't mean you won't get smacked down hard.

She's been sanctioned before for this type of thing, raising the fist ala 1972.

It's the hammer throw. If she got third against our own, how's she going to do against the Russian, Romanian, Bulgarian beshemoths?

I’m not sure if I’d fuck her.

    You would.....with vengeance in mind...

I wonder what would happen if people just ignored this type of behavior?

Its like you never had to ignore a person saying “hey batter batter” while some no talent hack threw a 50mph curve ball you took yard and just run the bases and do your job.

    it’s really not that hard.
I hear ya, and I agree with you in principle... BUT.... "We". (Conservative minded / libertarian) have done that very thing for decades.... And look where we are....

It's time for The People (who pay taxes, who raise children, who Fear God, who Love this Nation) to take the nation back, and call out this kind of ridiculous behavior for what it is, and do so forcefully! That means in every venue, not just with our buddies sitting around talking about how bad things have gotten and how we've lost our way as a nation.

Simply put, " That's how we got here. To go the other direction, we must do the opposite of what we've been doing"....

while you present a well thought out position Im not in a position to do anything. Her coaches allow it, sponsors allow it, society supports it.

yelling into the internet requires more effort than she is worth IMO.

you are not wrong, but, not my negro, not my problem.

Sure, I'm not suggesting anyone here seek her out and shout her down. I am suggesting that we ALL should call this out for what it is when we see it, even if it may cost us something. (In business, in stature , in our peer group, ect)

While I certainly don’t like her behavior, let face it…..she is a 3rd rate female hammer thrower in the Olympics. This was her only way to get screen time and press.
    pulling a Kaepernick
    1. be a shitty no-name athlete
    2. pull some shit in the name of "activism"
    3. claim you are oppressed
    4. collect fat stacks from advertisers

Shame her parents and kick her off the team. WTF did they raise? They need to be held as accountable as her.

And after she gets booted from the team, let her and her parental units know they have to arrange transportation home for that twat.

I don't get why they even had a flag-bearing ceremony. It was the US olympic trials - I thought only US members are supposed to participate...whats up? There are much better stories in coming from the Olympic trials...like these:
Just-turned 13 yo Kayla Han places first in 400 IM:

A fifth time Olympic-team first time mother Allyson Felix:

Cambodian orphan adopted at 18 mo. makes diving team:
