I'd pull the lever and deburr it, and switch out the trigger shoe if it is a Marlin. A lot of Remington Marlins shoot great, but the interior part of the lever looks like it was chewed on by a beaver. I'd take a look at each of the moving parts. Some can and should be replaced if they look shitty. If it is a 44 Mag, realize that it is not going to feed a lot of available ammo. They are really seating depth and meplat dependent.

Puma .357 mag I've had for several years. Heavy, long octagonal barrel. Fit and finish and balance is really great. It's my favorite gun to shoot other than my .308. I'd post pics if I knew how. I also have an old Win model 94 30-30 (1915 manufacture) that could use some work.

Fill it full of valve grinding compound and work it in for about an hour. That'll getter broke in perdy good.
I bought a large loop .357, i learned the different trick ways to cock it that if loaded will just throw a round out of it before it can chamber, but damn it looks cool.
When Arnie tried flip-cocking his 1887 shotgun on the set of Terminator 2, he nearly broke his fingers 'cause he used the one with the normal-sized lever loop and not the one with the modified large loop for the flip-cocking scenes.
I like to do the last shot chamber check and flip closed. All the others are pretty worthless. But there are some kinda trick ways of actually cocking a round in while on horseback or on a wheeler. I always like the way a muzzle down flick reload looks... not sure if thats what its called but that how it feels when i do it lol
I don't have any lever guns myself, my only repeater is a clone of the Colt Lightning slide-action. But if I ever get any, and I'm sure I will, I wanna give flipping a try, presuming I can get the right levers for some of 'em. Italian Colt Burgess is prime on my wishlist along with an '87 shotty and an '86 .45-70.
If and I repeat IF, you choose to work the action while watching a movie on TV. Do, I repeat DO make sure its not loaded. Had a good friend, (not me for real) put his TV down for the count. TV’s, even modern flatscreens have a real distaste for lead poisoning.
