I will be turning my barrel w/ an annular cutter & pilot & then threading it (5/8-24). I was just going to get a die from Drills & Cutters & was wondering if I should get a one piece or an adjustable die. I was leaning towards the non adjustable. Also, is a standard die precise enough? I am threading the barrel for a suppressor.

What type of machine are you planning to cut the threads with?

You are going to want to single point or threadmill this.

I was planning to turn the OD with an annular cutter using a pilot made for a .308 barrel.
I was going to cut the threads with a die, not a lathe.
No, not chambering the barrel but threading it for a suppressor.

Is an annular cutter with a properly sized pilot not concentric & perpendicular enough with respect to the bore?

While it can be done, there is a lot of room for error. For the cost of the tooling to do it by hand, you could have someone like LRI just thread it for you. Their lead times are very short on stuff like this...

The proper way is to have it centered in a four jaw chuck with the barrel indexed off a properly fitted rod that's inserted in the bore. The OD is then cut and threaded on the lathe based off the bore. Your idea might be OK for something along the lines of an A2 flash hider. Even then, if that pilot for your annular cutter is in the bore and rotating with the cutter, you stand a real good chance of destroying the rifling near the muzzle.

Thanks for the responses. Wanted to make sure that I would not do something that I would later regret, which it sounds like i would have.
