Too many short staffing issues lately, I wonder if they even get fired. They will let anyone get a CDL, but they should severely limit who can get passenger endorsements to stop shit like this.
Hard to find people at that price point.

Un-fucking-believable... They are supposed to make sure kids are CLEAR of the bus.. this girl wasn't even out of the fucking door... OMG.
That poor child was dragged for almost 60 seconds.....fucking crazy! I realize the camera view is much different than the view of the driver and guy standing, but fuck!
I rode a school bus for 4 years... back when there weren't safety measures in place like seat belts, or front blocks (i.e. the little gate that extends out of the engine side when the door is open, in case a kids crosses in front of the bus to get across the street). That gate stays extended until after the door closes. Since the kid has to go around the gate to cross in front of the bus, the driver *should* see them cross and then clear the bus.
But this was just pure carelessness. And that driver should lose their CDA for good. Just like the driver that didn't ensure their bus was empty before parking it at the bus depot for the night, leaving a kid inside. Hopefully, now that parents are often waiting in their cars for their kids to be dropped off, it will minimize the risk of it happening again.

In my case, they "contracted out" for school buses and drivers so they weren't technically "Government Workers." They were "Government Contractors."

The school board certainly split those hairs, as it meant they were relieved of a lot of the liability risk for incidents like the above, if they did directly supply the drivers/buses.

Well, since I cannot pistol whip her and the superintendent of schools without going to jail, I would find the nastiest shark of a lawyer I could find. I'm betting my kid's college would be covered...including books.
Fortunately, the schools my kids attended did not use buses. We hand delivered and picked up.

I don't-know….I know more than a few home schooled kids that are very sucessful well rounded and social people….I think its got to do with who’s teaching them…..At least you’ll know what they will be taught and if they're screwed up thats on you…

My two kids went to private Christian, then home schooled. My son went to high school public, he was a good solid boy and I wanted him to see and be w his peers. My daughter did one year in public highschool to fill a necessary credit she could only get there, to graduate.
Grandkids that we are raising go public.
The schools they put in around us as they plowed over the old citrus groves, decimated by the canker and greening, for the mc mansions, are some of the country's finest.
There are good public options out there, and there are not, depends on where you live.
Doesn't mean any way is better than the other, you try to make the best choice you can depending on where you live, for the best education for your kids.

If anything, the excess staffing contributed to the distraction of the driver because they appeared to be engrossed in conversation the entire time. Nor did the "Monitor" even once turn back to look at the children except possibly once but only because the driver pointed something/someone out and it isn't even clear whether they were looking at the child next to the window in the right front seat or something outside the bus.
And what is up with scrambling the image to conceal the Monitor's face? Public employee (or contractor) on a publicly owned (or contracted) bus you have exactly zero right or expectation of privacy. Blurring the children's faces I can understand. Not the adults.
This is probably not a popular opinion, but the best education I ever got out of public school was on the bus. We bartered with each other, fought for the seats at the back of the bus and learned many of life's great lessons... sometimes the hard way.
The lady was up to her ears keeping one eye on the road and the other on "Devon," who couldn't keep his ass in his seat while she was operating a 50ft long 25,000lb vehicle. That's a pretty crappy situation for $12 an hour. The bus driver dropped the ball pretty bad there, no doubt about that. I blame the guy standing there doing a whole lot of nothing more so than the driver. She also seems absolutely devastated when she figures out what's going on while he stands there pointing like an absolute jackass.
We used to put our bus driver through hell. Shit would be flying through the air, we'd fistfight, sometimes kids would even start small fires or jump out of the emergency exit at the back of the bus. Bus drivers had virtually zero authority to discipline kids and this was back in the early 90's. I shudder to think of what the situation looks like today. You couldn't pay enough to deal with that bullshit.

Go to any of your school bus garages and tell them you are qualified to drive a school bus. They will chase you down to hire you, there is a severe shortage of school bus drivers. The problem is, the course is EASY AND CHEAP(relatively) so anyone that takes the time can get one provided they can pass a background check. Problem with cheap and easy means morons pass at alarming rates, which in turn puts morons behind the wheel. The fact she drove off without checking the door shows me she didn’t pay attention to her class at all. You never move a large object like a bus without doing a 360 degree check. The helper was an idiot for not paying attention, but once again, shortages require dropping the hiring standard.

Sorry if the cold water of people having the state raise their kids for them hits too close to home, but it is what it is. If you don’t have time to raise them don’t have them, if you birth a kid only to have them grow up spending more time with the state than their own family, well who’s really the “parent”? “Mom and dad” are more like a bed and breakfast host than anything resembling a guide and teacher on being a good man or woman. I know I know, it’s like free day care and the only thing better than getting the crotch fruit to go away is getting it done for free and also getting money back during tax season! Plenty of other “parents” like you and state representatives who will reaffirm how this is being a “good parent” so no worries brah
Depends on the driver. We had women drivers in high school and they took zero shit. One was a former lady professional wrestler and the other two were cedar chopper women, the meaner than snot hillbillies that chopped cedar posts for a living in the hills west of Austin.
They knew us all by name and if you got out of line they'd cut loose with a leather lunged, hog calling squall that was way louder than any ruckus we were making or would stop the bus and kick you off.
