Sent to me by a friend, Quite the resume.

Just in case you were wondering why 60 Minutes had a hit piece on the Governor of Florida. Anyone who criticizes him - I have a question for you - can you please post your education and service to our country resume so we can put things in perspective?

“Ronald Dion DeSantis was born on September 14, 1978, in Jacksonville, Florida, the son of Karen (née Rogers) and Ronald DeSantis.[1] He is of Italian descent.[2] His family moved to Orlando, Florida, before relocating to Dunedin, Florida, when he was six years old.[3] In 1991, he was a member of the Little League team from Dunedin National that made it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.[4][5]
After graduating from Dunedin High School in 1997, DeSantis attended Yale University. He was captain of Yale's varsity baseball team and joined the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity.[5][6] On the Yale baseball team, DeSantis was an outfielder; as a senior in 2001, he had the team's best batting average at .336.[7][8][9][10]
He graduated from Yale in 2001 with a B.A. magna cum laude in history.[11] He then spent a year as a history teacher at the Darlington School.[12] DeSantis then attended Harvard Law School, graduating in 2005 with a Juris Doctor cum laude.[13][14]
DeSantis received his Reserve Naval officer's commission and assignment to the Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG) in 2004 at the U.S. Naval Reserve Center in Dallas, Texas, while still a student at Harvard Law School. He completed Naval Justice School in 2005. Later that year, he received orders to the JAG Trial Service Office Command South East at Naval Station Mayport, Florida, as a prosecutor. In 2006, he was promoted from lieutenant, junior grade to lieutenant. He worked for the commander of Joint Task Force-Guantanamo (JTF-GTMO), working directly with detainees at the Guantanamo Bay Joint Detention Facility.[15][16][17]
In 2007, DeSantis reported to the Naval Special Warfare Command Group in Coronado, California, where he was assigned to SEAL Team One and deployed to Iraq[18] with the troop surge as the Legal Advisor to the SEAL Commander, Special Operations Task Force-West in Fallujah.[15][16][17]
DeSantis returned to the U.S. in April 2008, at which time he was reassigned to the Naval Region Southeast Legal Service. The U.S. Department of Justice appointed him to serve as an Assistant U.S. Attorney[18] at the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Middle District of Florida. DeSantis was assigned as a trial defense counsel until his honorable discharge from active duty in February 2010. He concurrently accepted a reserve commission as a lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the US Navy Reserve.[19] He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal.[15][16][17”

    Thanks for posting this.

It's pretty obvious that the Dems and their media allies will treat any leading Republican presidential candidate for '24 just like they treated Donald Trump: they will do everything to destroy him per Alinsky's tactics. Because of this, Republican candidates must have a strong fighting instinct if they want to survive and be successful. DeSantis has that fighting instinct, and he's also smart and accomplished. I really hope he runs.

An AUSA, working alongside Federal Agents?!?! I’m surprised anyone here has any respect for this guy at all!😂

And he probably knows what day, week, month and year it is without a note. He probably does not shit himself after eating ice cream or sit around daydreaming of sex with 12 year olds, like the current office holder. I bet he can hold more than one thought in his head at a time and does not fall asleep when honoring the returning coffins of fallen servicemembers.

    I vote yes.

Places like Harvard, Yale, Princeton, the top tier universities, certainly have their place. Much of that is the connections you make, and the food for your resume. You can get a top tier education at any GOOD university if you put in the time and effort. Is al in the lobraries and theyre all on line now. but here's a little story.

I went to UVA, (a second tier school) at 40. One of the TA's had transferred from Princeton because we had a top rated history program he wanted.. I asked him whats the difference. After looking around to make sure no one else was listening, he said...

"The main difference is at the top youre studying under the guys who write the books. Here your studying under the guys who write about the books the other guys write."

True that but in my field, philosophy, we did have Richard Rorty, the top in the field.

I got my PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. My PI was relatively new to the University, having been lured from another by the offer of a "Chair" in the School of Nat Sci and a brand new building waiting to be filled with equipment. Our lab space was huge, roughly 1/8 of the 3rd floor of the building, and the large lab equipment was new.

I went to Yale for a post doctoral position. The lab was in the basement of the School of Medicine and the PI had been in that space since the 60s (maybe before). One day I was sitting in what passed for a break room and a grad student from another lab walked it and sat down. She was a particularly smarmy sort, full of Ivy league bad-assery. A real "Just turn me loose to save the world" type. Anyway, she ask (with her best ironic scowl) "So, what's it like to go from Texas to Yale." I replied, "The buildings are older, the labs are smaller, the equipment is older, and there is less of it. Other than that, its pretty much the same." Dunked my trash in the can and went back to work.

As an undergrad I took a civil liberties course. As luck would have it, within the very large lecture hall there was a familiar face; a- rather attractive- girl that I recognized from biochemistry class. We got to talking and she had transferred from harvard the previous semester. Why? She was over the overbearing nature of the faculty. Professors making personal calls to find out why students were not in class that day. At a public university you sink or swim on your own merit.

Back to Yale, my PI walks into the lab and stops by my bench.
"Hlee, I've got a bunch of students failing my class."
    "Ok, they should study harder."
"No, you don't understand. They can't fail."
    "What do you mean?"
"Department policy says the students cannot fail."

Did you study under Rorty? What do think of his ideas? I have to confess I'm barely aware of his position in late 20th century philosophy (not at all my subject), but what little I've read about him hasn't given me a real clear picture. He's been called a pragmatist by some, an anti-Christian by others, and something of an old-school liberal elitist by others, and it seems he adjusted his ideas quite a bit over time. Guess I need to read him for myself. Any suggestions along that line?

I've read elsewhere that's the case at Ivy League schools, but not in such direct terms. The solution given there amounted to mostly a form of grade inflation. The scion of the elites simply could not be allowed to fail out.

I took one class under him but it was 30 years ago and I dont remember a lot. I do remember writing one paper that challenged his theories and then ran into him in the lounge. He just gave me a big grin. A nice gentleman. Let me look into a recommendation. I did a lot of work with the early guys, the Greeks

Its definitely true, its called 'Grade inflation'. It doesnt look good if the professor has students fail. Its rare anyone gets less than a C unless youre a complete moron and they dont get in to those schools to begin with,

Athletes have a whole different deal and take a lot of what we called 'Gut (level) classes'.

They, the Ivy Leagues, are what they are, schools. Like most of academia, they are 'veering' left rapidly.

You can get an excellent education at most any major university, but what you get at the Ivies (and others like Chicago, MIT, and the like), is to study under the cutting edge people in every field. You also get connections to others who are top of the field. Those connections can aid you massively.

And here I thought Harvard only churned out Progressive Zombiecrats.

Desantis seems to be everything trump isnt. He doesnt need to talk big, just does his thing and dares them to try to stop him. He's the first politician in a long time that gives me hope. Trump was the perfect man for the time but deep down hes a loud new yorker and we don t need that now. I will say his foreign policy was excellent.

I think the last one I thought highly of was Ron Paul.

Maybe Bob McDonald, the Virginia governor that the demi's framed and killed his chance at the big slot. He suggest firearm training in grade school.

Im not that much older than DeSantis. The leftist indoctrination thing is relatively new. I knew most of my professors were leftists, but they didn't use to make a big deal about it.

All but one professor that spent time in Central America with the ?Sandinistas? and he wasn't pushing anyting and was willing to debate opposite views

FWI've seen, it's only the last decade or so that it's gotten really bad

Agree. And not smooth at all. Granted i think we needed exactly that when he was elected. The masks came off and he exposed a lot of peoples true agendas.

Desantis is a good dude and takes no shit. He has my vote
I've read/heard that he won't oppose Trump if Trump runs again. Smart move because most republicans are in love with the guy.

Me? As much as I want to see Trump win and rub all the leftists' noses in it, I'd rather not see that rioting and looting. I'd much rather see someone with less political baggage run and win

I heard Desantis speak at a local gathering for a political candidate a month, or so ago. I found him to be very articulate, and had the impression that he was very intelligent..............

Fuck that last story. I showed up at college ready to get my freshman Superman cape on and the associate dean steps up to an auditorium full of BA majors of various flavors and says “ you are here to learn to be professionals in your field. If you are sick, your absent. If you are late, your absent. If you fall asleep, your absent. Zero excuses.” Then dean comes in and says the same thing. And I’ll be damned if they weren’t serious. TA’s were assigned so many rows to catch the unwary sleepers.

That was an absolutely magnificent experience. Fuck your excuses, conform to the standard or go get an art degree. People dropped left and right. The number of us left on Graduation day was eye opening. I had a full time job and there was still no favoritism given until the junior and senior years when I had to travel, and even then I knew my ass better get with every prof or failure was certain. As it should be.

I know for a painful fact it isn’t like this any longer. USG grant money dictates a lot these days.

I went to the largest undergraduate university in the country at the time. Lower division courses were large and ‘dehumanizing’ by design. They are called ‘weed out classes’ for a reason. Mom and dad weren’t there to make sure you were present and awake and taking notes in the approved style. Not in class? Slept through the lecture? Too hung over? Don’t care. You are still responsible for the material. TAs assigned to catch sleepers? Ain’t nobody got time fo’ that.

I really to this day think the TAs being there was just to fuck with our mind during our first ever college class. They definitely weren’t there to babysit, and they had that same no-fucks-given attitude that carried over into other areas where we interacted with them.

not defending trump or putting down ron..i hope he runs and wins

everyone keeps posting that ron has bigger balls and is tougher etc

hes the governor of a state not the country

he hasnt and may not win a election for presidency

its easy to be a big shot when talking to another state or congress lets see him get putin, rocket man, and china to back off and sit down...that takes balls of steel

    heavy is the crown

trump broke the ice while the rest were just sitting there taking their beatings, its a shit ton harder to be the first one than the best one

It’s worse for a team red that questions the machine but any politician that isn’t in lock-step with the agenda has to be made an example of, whether in public or private. Look how quickly “the squad” caved when their Ukraine war opposition letter went public. Or how Tulsi has been attacked for questioning just one aspect of the war machine years ago, immediately being labeled an Assad toady
