If this has been covered, I apologize. I’m looking to load some 6.5 PRC with Hornady 147 Grain bullets and H4831SC. I’m struggling to find any load data. Does anybody know where I can find some load data? Thanks in advance!!

I would love to revive this. I was just given an 8lb jug of H4831SC (I know it isn't ideal)however, I am seeing people using it on hunting forums with temp stability (and that is what I need because I move from CO high alt. to sea level high heat hunting in Tx often.) Did any of you guys end up actually testing some loads with this? I have a 6.5 prc 24" proof, and it shoots 147's lights out with r22, but I am now out of that and slim pickings locally as we all know. Thanks- J

I just started break in on a new 6.5 PRC. 24" proof, 7.5 twist. Rem 700 LA. I plan on loading 147s with 4931SC. My smith swears by it. I'll keep you posted on progress, but please do the same.

147s explode 50-100 yards from the barrel. Move on to Berger 156’s. Trust me. Better ballistics all the way around. The 147s were accurate with H4831 I used, not SC though.
Hornady brass, FGMM primers. So are the 156s though (pic is RL26).

CA MPR carbon 24” barrel

Here’s 156 data
53F 44% 30.23mmHg
Berger 156 gr Elite Hunter HPBT
H4831 54.8
Hornady brass x 6
FGMM 210M
COL 2.035
COAL 2.940
Magnetospeed V3
2852, 2866, 2852, 2870, 2859
2865, 2875, 2877, 2868, 2877 SD 7.5

In my experience h4831sc is a touch too fast of a burn rate in 26"+ 6.5prc and 147s. I ran into pressure before hitting max velocity/max accuracy. I think h4831sc would be great in 20-22" barrels or 130gr class bullets.

The bullets suck anyway. I’d definitely shoot something else besides 147’s!!

Haha. Yeah.....that has been my experience too. I recently milled a 109 berger and a 108 eldm (that blew up in flight 7 of 10). The hornady's jacket is very thin compared to the berger. The hornadys may not be "bad" but they are way more sensitive to throats/barrels that beat the jacket up for various reasons.

The bergers (FGMM) shot great with superb accuracy and not one failure.

I remember when hornadys were cheap and good enough for anything short of top level comps. Anymore I recommend people pay the minimal extra for bergers and be done with it.

Thanks OptoKid - I have the exact same barrel on a Lonepeak TI action.

Since my post, I am at 54grns with the 4831sc and 147 6.5prc- I have worked down to a half inch group which is 3-4 in a clover and one off group .25. I failed to mention I was also traded a 500 rnd box of 147's - So I hear everyone on the quality, but I want to shoot them up. So far I haven't had any explode on me. I didn't go down and check the target but from the line it appeared I had 5 in a frisbee at 1k. Shooting conditions were ideal minus 5-8 gusts.

I loaded up 100 147's for my friends creedmoor, just copied a load I found with 4350 and reduced the powder, measured his chamber, and 1st load he put up a 2.5" 3 shot at 600 in a bargera. He was pretty happy with that considering it was his first day to shoot past 100 yards.
