You do know the not guilty verdict means there was not enough evidence to convince a jury he was guilty of using his girlfriend as a shield?

However; that isn’t even the important part of the verdict.

So the fact these were all drug dealing felons whose criminality spans generations make them heroes in your mind because you don’t like no knock warrants?

Is that the importance of the verdict? Or is it that a black guy was found not guilty indicating racial equality in the criminal justice system?

Ahhh, we are getting a little closer.

Remove the assumptions that I think he is a hero, and we might be able to proceed.

Race has nothing to do with it. Crimes of the father are an irrelevant add on as well.

Presumption of innocence is important though.

Yes you’re right. The cops were way out of line to assume (correctly though) the people they wanted to search were armed felons likely to respond with gunfire. They should not have presented their prior violent acts to the judge in their warrant application and simply asked for consent (politely).

Then none of this would have happened. So what’s the significance of the verdict in the context of the Rittenhouse verdict?

That you are safe in your dwelling and can act in self defense if you believe your life to be in danger.

An unannounced flash bang at Zero dark thirty would lead any reasonable person to react in kind.

So going further, and why I originally posted the case in response to the raid of a normal person who flipped school boards.

Pre-dawn unannounced raids are happening entirely to commonly on non violent people of a certain political persuasion. Fear of possibly getting smoked executing these types of raids on political enemies is in the best interest of all citizens.

Reasonable people don’t open fire when they hear “Sheriffs Office! Search Warrant!” and flash bangs going off in the house. Why? Because criminals generally want to get away with their home invasion robberies.

Criminals whose criminality spans generations should expect periodic visits from law enforcement. I don’t believe for a second that Andrew Coffee the Fourth didn’t know he was being raided by the Sheriffs Office.

Don’t compare this to what the FBI is doing to the parents. Parents aren’t criminals. The FBI is doing this for intimidation. The Sheriffs in Coffee’s case had a legit reason for being there.

The evidence presented, and verdict given kind of kill the whole “Sheriffs office! Search warrant!” Thingy.

Criminals whose criminality spans generations? What does that even mean? No, they should not expect periodic visits unless it’s a requirement of their probation/parol. A midnight raid is not a periodic visit.

Yes, the sheriffs did have a legit reason to be there, but that’s not what this is about. It’s about the conduct of the raid and the response from the alleged criminal.

What this does is sets the precedent that it’s not slam dunk murder of a police officer if you are involved in an unannounced raid and fear for your life, and subsequently defend yourself if you’re unaware it is law enforcement doing the entry/raid.

Everyone who has posted a quote from the Gulag Archipelago should be interested in the outcome of this case.

Grandpa is in prison, dad is selling drugs, junior has a felony record. I don’t have their rap sheets but they’re prolly lengthy.

Criminals should expect periodic home visits by the cops when they are selling drugs. That’s how the Sheriffs got the search warrant- a judge determined there was probable cause to search that house. How was that determination made? I don’t know because I have not read the warrant affidavit, but I’m guessing one of the Coffee family clients gave them up.

As far as how the warrant was served? The accounts I read said the Sheriffs descended on the house but Coffee the Third was awake and went outside and tried to get back inside but the Sheriffs grabbed him and a struggle ensued. The order to go in was given, they announced, flashbanged the house, and Coffee the Fourth opened fire. I don’t see any misconduct there.

In order to go in that way the Sheriffs had to justify it based on the Coffees prior contacts with law enforcement, their criminal histories, and instant behavior. I dunno if you have ever served a search warrant, but I can tell you that these things are well planned and everything is triple checked, signed off, justified above and beyond what’s required due to the litigious nature of the clientele.

Yeah I know that’s why I haven’t been invited to parties and holiday dinners but I’m so thankful that I don’t have spend any more money on food and gifts.
