The LAST thing we want is Big Tech to become a regulated monopoly.
The best thing that can happen is that their protections under Communications Decency Act/ECPA get revoked so that they can be sued at civil level and charged at criminal level by private individuals and states/municipalities.
That will HAMMER their stock value. And open them up to the same standard and liabilities as other publishers. Under Cubby V. Compuserve c. 1992.. SCOTUS decision... online services are protected from liability AS LONG AS they are acting like a library. Only a repository for information and discussion. As soon as they start controlling the information and discussion, they are, by definition, publishers. And publishers are subject to responsibility for what they publish at a civil level and, occasionally, at a criminal level. Edit: The CDA provided protections to the tech industry above and beyond Cubby v. Compuserve... and granted them total immunity from civil suit. A loophole that they have totally exploited while suppressing content that their little snowflake employee and full-on Commis management teams don't like. They are 100 percent protected as they lobby against Republicans, alter elections, force vaccines and do a ton of other Social Engineering things by their fact-checking, shadow-banning, removal of content they don't like, etc. They are worse than Goebbels... because they are engineering their 'tools' to be more addictive than Crack.
DO NOT get duped into calling for these folks to be a regulated monopoly like the old Phone Company or an electric utility. Because the so-called Regulators will be so corrupt and bought-and-paid-for that they will ensure the Big Tech platforms are even more protected and aggressive against the Constitution than they are now.
Make them accountable in the courts. Open them up to the same kinds of lawsuits that "The View" and CNN and the newspapers are getting...
