My step son and DIL worked in Memphis for a few years (she at St.Judes) and lived in Olive Branch MS. Shortly after they moved there, he made a joke with a funny reference with the word "monkey" in it. Everyone was like...."noooooo...you can't say the word monkey, it's considered a racial slur". I'm like, what do they call those animals at the zoo? I know there is a racial slur with that word, but it's a no-no for any other use of the word? WTF?

In China Pete's on Okinawa in the early 80s. Ex was into collecting animal figurines made by someone. Followed her around until she decided what she wanted. Head to the counter and she tells Mamasan .oshe wants "The coons in the tree." I'm sure the black couple next to her pulled neck muscles.

I was real disappointed with Memphis, Beale st sucked. The Gibson factory was cool even though I don’t plant. I went years ago just to see drag races at a different venue.

I lived in the south for a long time and never understood why the people there still call people Yankees. The Confederacy lost that war 157 years ago, get over it.

BTW the university I attended has won 18 conference titles and 2 national championships. That being said, I never watch their games and couldn't care less because I don't know any of the players or coaches anymore.
