Tempest with AICS magazines

Anybody currently running this setup? I have a barreled action coming and a MPA BA Comp chassis I want to mount it in. Trying to get a head start on figuring out what I need to do to run AICS mags.

Ya. I use AW aics and mdt mags with my mdt chassis

If you're not dead set on AICS mags, get AWs instead. The Tempest works beautifully with AW mags, and they're FAR more compact.

Are AICS and Aw’s same width? Have never used AW’s so I have no clue.

Kinda. AICS have a taper in the middle but AWs don't. However, the outer dimensions at the corners are the same or close enough, and AWs work in an AICS mag well no issue. The action has to be cut for the AW, but the Tempest was designed for AWs from the beginning.

Thanks Hollywood. This is exactly the feedback I was looking for!! I will grab a couple AWs. I have a bunch of 10 and 12 AICS already

You might be able to get the mag catch set in the MPA (assuming it's a newer model with an adjustable one) where it will run both AICS and AW, but there's a good chance it'll need to be set up for one or the other. Try both and see what you think. I'm very much partial to AWs in both of my Tempest actions due to size and how well they feed.

Yes. I have the new version with adjustable mag catch and the mag block. I will try the AW mags. Not partial to either

When I had mine in a KRG whiskey 3 I was able to run both AICS and AW.

Id still get an AW and maybe keep a aics as backup. The AWs are really magic in the tempest.

That’s my plan based on the responses in this post. I have a bunch of AICS already. Time to buy a few AW’s

I had issues running standard AICS in mine, both were in Manners stocks. Anyone know if a tempest will run with a BDL?

I know of no way it will work with a bdl. A bdl works off the action retaining the rounds. Since the tempest is cut for an AW the bottom is wide open. You'd need a special internal box mag that has the "lips" built in.

If I recall right there was a guy or company selling flush mount detachable mags. With the right bottom metal and hard to access mag latch release it would be damn close to a bdl.

I've been eying off the hawkins flush hunting DBM, that may be a suitable option.
