When I take 408 CT brass down to 338 Snipetac, I first use a die taking the neck down to 375 and then the 338 Snipetac die in a second step. Maybe you also used several steps - but if you go from 408 to 30 cal in one step only, you will likely ruin your brass.

I also have the very best experience with Dave Viers who made me a 338 Snipetac including dies. High quality work from a high quality shop. I noticed shellholder Dave delivered showed slight grinding on it. When iterating on adjusting headspace, I realized Dave had already fixed the headspace...
